Time to rebuy???

Hello, ex zed owner here. Sold my e85 3 years ago when the kids arrived.

Never really got over it as I loved that car and now I am thinking to buy another.... the e89 doesn’t appeal and the g29 is going to be out of my price range, so I am thinking to buy another e85!

Previously I had a 2.5si and - was plenty car for me.

Questions: how have these cars aged? Would you go for the same model (2.5si) or go for the 3.0?

My budget is 5k; what would you expect to get for that nowadays? I’d ideally like a 2008 model.... and I need enough cash in the bank to swap out the tires... no run flats need apply 😂

Edit: fundamentally would you rebuy a e85 or am i thinking through rose tinted glasses????

Hi, there’s nothing wrong with wanting another e85 as they’re still great cars, although to get an 08 model I think you’re going to need a bit more than £5k? :?

The question is what other purpose designed RWD 2 seater can you buy for £5k that is a good and isn't going to turn in to a money pit? The 2.5Si is probably the sweet spot at the moment.

Go for it, I miss my E85/E86.

As SB says, you’ll probably need a bit more cash for an 08 but you never know with winter coming up.

Sub 100k Si 3.0 is doable on £5k but it would be foolish to expect a car that required zero spend for that amount

I sold my old one for £7.5k with 60k miles... was hoping they had dropped a bit more.

Will just need to keep my eyes peeled... glad you all don’t think I am not going nuts to want to go back... my biggest fear is getting behind the wheel and it not being what I remember.

Nothing wrong with going back to one - but maybe you should try to drive one before you commit!

What you have had in the meantime may affect how one feels now.

Good luck with your search.

2006-2008 they are all the same. Stick a plate on it and nobody will know the age.

Buy on condition and get the best you can for 5k. But if it’s a 2006 then I wouldn’t worry a jot.

Well I’m currently driving a Ford Focus so not sure that will make a difference. Maybe on the ride comfort as my old 2.5 broke a few of my teeth. And I’ll keep that (and the sodding qashqai). This will be my toy.

My only doubt then is on the model.

2.5si or 3.0. I think looking at ads I would need to save about 3k more for a good 3.0, which is fine, but I won’t use the extra shove I don’t think, I am not gonna track the car and I don’t have the ability to max it.

And I am 95% on the roadster but 5% of me is wondering if this time I should sample the coupe... it’s such a beast but I really want open top motoring....

You'll struggle to get a coupe anywhere near a £5k budget - leggy cars are just dipping under £8k, but for a tidy car with between 70 and 90k miles, you're probably looking more typically at £9k and up.
