Time to press the modding button on my 35i

Ok, so i've had my 35i for just over 2.5 years, Its now 3.5 years old and instead of investing (or wasting another £20-30K on another one or some other car (I do fancy a Maserati because of the noise it makes). I thought i would start some subtle modding. After all, its a great car and its got just about everything on its options list that i want.

I've already started and order a couple of new roll hoop covers so that they can be hydro printed with carbon weave and a rear under valance in the same.

Next on my hit list is an exhaust system with a little more bite. Don't want it to be overtly loud, but louder and keeping its great character. I hand investigated a Misterschaft system, but way too expensive and from the states, (sounds beautiful though). There is not much out there, but i think i'm settled on a Milltek cat back system. I've already contacted one owner and asked their opinion of the Milltek set up and he was encouraging. If anybody else is running this set up with or without the ESS i'd like to hear from them.

Once this is done, I'm also likely to install an ESS power upgrade and unleash a few more horses. Not full power, but the milder version.

Rather than spend on a new exhaust, none of which are cheap, have you first tried the golf-t mod to keep the silencer flap open?

Hmmm I'll try that. I've tried it at standstill but has not tried it on a run. That said I've heard different reports. The only posti r mod I've heard is for de-cat. Which most say increases noise.

It makes it a bit too loud at start up (golf t mod) but on a general drive it maybe increases the sound generally about 20% and makes the over run pops louder. Nice thing about this mod is it takes a minute and is fully reversible, without spending a penny.

Most of the aftermarket exhausts don't have the emissions flap and is v loud all the time, it can get a bit annoying after a while. I know someone that fitted the eisenmann exhaust to his and his OH told him to put the old one back on within a week as she couldn't stand the droning on the motorway and loud startup noise. Its one thing to get a nice sound, its quite another to live with the negatives of that.

Ok, just did that. Hmm very noisy start up (NICE) but little difference at full chat, but i suppose that's actually the way its meant to work. I'll leave it like this for a couple of weeks to see how it goes.
