Due to a change in work I am now travelling about a lot. As the z has now clocked up 86k its time to move onto something more economical as I get paid by the mile so it’s a no brainer that I have to go diesel.
Would have loved to have got a (holds breath) a diesel e89 z4 but as they don’t make them it’s not an option.
Just wanted to say after being on here since my first z in 2007 2.0 and lately the 2.5 I have had a ball, this is one nice place to visit and the knowledge is fantastic, without the help I would have been able to whip off the rear bumper (to install PDC) or remove and replace the roof (to check out the motor) never mind changing bulbs and improving the lighting (interior and boot pace), oh and fitting 108’s with non runflats,(and a diy refurb) the list goes on.

I won't say "Sorry to see you leave" as I'm sure you'll hang around, but I will suggest a diesel TT (and await the flaming).

What about a 335d convertible? Almost as much fun and possibly faster in a straight line :driving: :fuelfire:
 
I still use my MC for my 500-600 mile a week commute. Costs about £110/week in fuel, at about 27mpg.

Surely a 2.5 on a run will be getting closer to 40mpg, so make sure the extra cost of diesel is included in your calculations as some of them don't deliver anywhere near their advertised figures (e.g. I only got 40mpg out of a supposed 63mpg 120d, sitting at my normal 80-85mph).

Agree with this, I get 42-44 out of my 1.7d Astra at 80-85, and about 47-49 at 70-75. However, at 65-70 I get 55. Depending on your driving style diesels may not be that much better. For me I really have to be quite a conservative driver to reap the rewards.
 
Currentlty getting 34 on a 600 mile run, but am expecting to be doing 9k per year extra so the z was impractical. put the hammer down on a 320cd m due to the good deals on them at the moment + its a bm.

I will have to hang around a bit as i want to see my name on the underneath of marmites bonnet..... :thumbsup:
 
I have a 120d company car (which i am trying to upgrade)

I get 55mpg at 65-70mph.

But aside from cost there is comfort... I can see your point... If i was doing 15k+ a yr i wouldnt want to do it in a Z either.

So, congratulations on the change of role. Onwards and upwards?

Just had a well a spec'd 316d as a loaner which I was expecting to be dire. It was actually a nice place to be, a perfectly good motorway cruiser and 60mpg
