pazza i was looking at a cayman but now you got me thinking now

Well I be honest it was the 4 seats driving my decision jonny well 2+2 , I mean 18 months ago I was not fussed by c4s's thats because I did not appreciate them , more research I did the more the desire grew. They just look fantastic , drive great , even 4 wheel drive! , inside is ok so I guess thats the let down but a few small touches and they look very nice tbh.

The cayman is a great car but still I suppose is only ever a Cayman :?

Best advice go drive a "decent" example of both cars , your know quickly what's the right car :)

What you switching to Kryton?

Well if the car's the same as this pic it'll be the new shape R8 V8

Mmmm 8) that's nice , , wouldn't swap the 991 for the old R8 but i can see the temptation for the newer model

Watch this and I defy anyone to say the basic 991 Carrera isn't anything other than a massive rip-off bought by mugs, the only exception being if you have pre-school age kids of course. :rofl:

I'd stick with Porsche Kryton. That just looks like a Lambo imitation.

I take your point but I'm struggling what to purchase next, I've a letter of intent on a 991turbo but that would be totally over the top for my needs and I've offered my place in the queue to a third party if I decide not to go ahead, I'll also be looking at the 991GT3 however I don't like the rear wing on top of the Ducktail and I'm sure the ride will be to hard for me. :cry:

Even my 991S is more than I need as I don't use the performance but it's a nice car to drive/own, I do think the new R8 will look more super-car than the Porsche but I'm sure the production model won't be as low as that (wheel arch to tyre) and there'll be other alterations.

I did test drive the existing R8 V8 before I ordered my 991S but the fact that the shape had been out some years (new model due) and the naff auto box put me off.

Regards

If you watched Fifth Gear last night Kryton, I'd get the Audi S8!! It left the R8 for dead in a drag race!! :o

R8= 430 bhp,
S8= 512 bhp

New model R8 should have a power increase I'd have thought?

Didn't see it :cry: can you post an on-line link please?

Sounds like you don't need a change of car... (I'm not convinced by that Audi concept)

Although I'd love a GT3 8)

I love the C4S, and nearly bought one for 15k with 90k miles. I decided against it and got my ZMC for a little bit more and a third of the mileage... If I ever found a good example within my budget in the future I would definitely consider it, they are more practical than the Z. I'd just be a little concerned about the maintenance, it's not just the initial investment you have to think about with a porsche 996.

It's not all about drag races though. We have corners on 100% of our roads.

I'm like a broken record mentioning my friend a hell of a lot on here but that's mainly because people keep talking about cars he has owned. He told me recently that both of his R8s, V8 first then V10 a few cars later are the only 2 cars that he has really missed when he's sold them. He currently has a gen2 GT3, had several GT3RS, Ferrari scuderia etc so it's not like he's comparing them to an old MX5 or something.

He plans on selling the GT3 to get the R8 with S Tronic that is just coming out. After trying the gearbox in the new RS4 he is obsessed with how good it was. He also reckons the V8 is the better car. It sounds better, is a bit more chuckable and is less likely to lose you your license (who needs to do 0-60 under 3 seconds on a public road?)

Anyway OP. Congratulations on the new car. Sounds like you've went into it with your eyes open which is the only way to approach ownership of an older Porsche.
