time for a new window switch?

On my new-to-me coupe the driver's (offside) window switch seem to be partially broken. It works in the down mode just fine - push it to the first detent and the window lowers until the switch is let go. Push it to the 2nd detent and the window lowers all the way even when teh switch is let go. This all seems normal. Trying to raise it by pulling to the first detent and nothing happens. Pulling it it the 2nd detent and the window only moves while the switch is operated; when let go it stops. In other words there is no auto-raise function. Based on other BMWs (99 E46 and 2006 E61) this isn't correct so I suspect the switch is partly broken?

not sure if this will help, but there is a way to "reset" the windows auto function, not sure what it is off the top of my head but im sure somebody will be able to help you out

my passenger 1 was auto and my drivers side wasn't, did the reset and it worked so worth a shot

I think what you do is from fully closed position, lower window while holding the switch, then hold for a further 5 seconds when window is fully open, then the same with the passenger side. (using the drivers side window consul)

Never had to do mine but i read this on this forum somewhere. :?

if not it maybe the switch itself, you can remove the assembly by unclipping it, the unit then splits to show a small pcb, the mirror buttons touch a rubber pad with round metallic pads that touch the pcb, you can clean them with a small amount of ipa on a cloth

Did the window reset a few times and all seems to be working fine. Must admit I was skeptical as the autodrop when opening/closing the door always worked fine - I really did think it was a duff switch. But all's sorted so thanks for the help! :)
