Time for a new TV

It’s time for a new TV and as it’s many years since I bought one and technology has moved on, what do I buy? I want a decent unit but don’t want to spend silly money - TV size 48/55 ish

I think we need a hard disk recorder as not all progs go onto catch up?
Then there’s the sound - I’ve got a good av amp and Bi wired speakers. Do I buy a sound bar for Tv use?

I take the same view as when buying a washing machine Ron and stick with the same brand for years, so that's a Hotpoint and a Sony Bravia for the goggle box. Theres too much choice these days. Modern TV speakers are a waste of time so went with a Bose sound bar when I last bought the TV. Gives a full rich sound so happy with it. I'm sure there's better TVs but I do like the Sony's.

Tim.

For me it would be one of the new 55" OLED LG ones, because if I remember correctly LG is the only TV that runs the Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and NowTV applications, the other makes don't run NowTV.

Bought a 65" LG 4k oled one last year from Richer Sounds, because as Mark points out it was the only one with all the apps like Netflix, Amazon video etc.

After years of Panny Vieras and then Samsung, I have to say I am impressed. The pic quality is fantastic. Sound is actually quite good from the inbuilt speakers, but I have them off as we use a Denon Dolby Atmos AV receiver with a Tannoy 8 speaker Atmos setup.

Price and service as usual from Richer were excellent, MUCH cheaper than even Costco and with a 5 or 6 year fee warranty.

Just had a look on my Samsung 3 yr old ish , as was wondering about the apps, now TV , Amazon and Netflix are all available , unless lg has them built in an not as a download but they work fine for me

I had Viera's for years....

One went faulty and was beyond repair, luckily under warranty and a swapped for a Samsung. Best thing i ever did, excellent picture quality.

As above, I've stuck with Panasonic for decades, currently sporting a 32" Viera which back in the day was the average size

Bought a 65in LG Oled in the January sales. Paired with a Bose sound bar. Brilliant! Mind you the other half thinks it is far too big and has suggested charging the neighbours to eatch from outside.

We've been very pleased with a 65" Philips ... and a 9 foot satellite dish! ...

OMG We've got a 19" (it is across the diagonal isn't it) and that was an upgrade in size from the last one

You lot make me laugh...! 65", OLED, etc,

The criteria was...

You don't have to spend any more than £500 to get a really good 49-55" TV these days. I tend to use HotUKDeals to see what offers other people find and recommend. Some cracking deals on ATM with the world cup coming up.

Now back to watching my 10 year old Sony 40" :?

Were in the LG camp.Out tv is 42 in ,the room is 24 ft long and we sit about 18ft from the tv.If you need a 65 in screen I think specsavers should be the next port of call. If you live in a stately home ignore that last comment
The picture is really good.We bought ours from Richer Sounds Chester.

We’ve just had a look an LG Oled Tv today and was impressed with the quality of the display. There were four TVs in a row all playing the same picture in a loop.
The whites on the LG were very good while the others were off white - bit towards cream.

The LG is the front runner at the moment - it seems like we also need a new hard disc recorder as well.

I have a 6 year old Samsung 43 inch Plasma that is still going strong!

But sadly nobody seems to make Plasma TVs anymore. :(

Keep thinking of binning off my 40” pioneer plasma, but the only thing catching my eye is the Sony Bravia range. A lot of Tv for £500 or £600 at 55”

I had this at the forefront of my mind when replacing our Pioneer Kuro. Managed to find a top of the range 50" Panasonic Plasma on Gumtree for a steal (complete with 5 years warranty and receipt for £1800 1 year earlier!) for less than £300!! Beautiful picture.

Then moved house and needed a TV for the kitchen diner and went for a £600 50" Samsung. Must admit, i am very impressed with how much LCD/LED technology has moved on. Motion and blacks are very good. You can now get the 55" for that price!

Any one know if smart TVs mean you can dispense with the need for areal`s and Coax cables from terrestrial TV and sky boxes etc. Its just I'm moving soon and will probably replace my TV`s (1 down 5 to go...!!!) with a new smart TV.. Trying to find out if il need to be running loads of cables still...?

Any experts in this field in here can advise.. im with Sky for phone, fibre, and SKY Q so have the full Monty and plan on sticking with them so will obviously get their advise and no doubt get sold multi room again ..

I mean I can literally watch TV now on my phone with all the apps I have and Netflix etc.

Dont want to go down the cable route any more as the technology seems to be there to eliminate it :?

We have a smart tv & it has Wi-fi & Ariel connected, some programs are streamed and some are terrestrial :?

Do you stream via sky, virgin box or other service provider equipment wired in a main room or direct from the internet service?

I guess the areal is providing digital services?
