Time for a good clean...

Stuart Truman

Lifer
 The Cotswolds
Dropped a reasonable chunk of change at cleanyourcar in prep for #69 going in for a facelift

4ltrs of Iron-X
Couple of Sonus Ultra fine clay bars and clay lube
Wire Wool to clean up the sooty pipes
Poorboys wheel sealant
A few misc odds and sods

This is in prep for the front spoiler being resprayed, a scrape being taken out of the rear bumper, various stone chips and minor war wounds being tidied up and a full rotary polish to get rid of the swirls.

The old girl will look quite the shiny thing when done. I have the before pics, I'll add them when I have the after pics to match

Ahhh! Car cleaning kit, one of the MANY hidden expenses associated with a passion for cars!

Make sure you take Before and After pics!

Yep!

I was going to buy a Meg's 220 DA polisher, but the body shop will do it for £85 on top of the bill for the other bits and bobs so I'll buy one later in the year.

Next week unless something comes up at work to take me out of the country. I'm using Dingmaster in Swindon, they did a brilliant job on my S-Max when some numpty smashed in the door in the car park (and drove off without a word) and their cost is very reasonable.

Good luck with it, Stuart, and look forward to the results being revealed. Hope she looks nearly as good as mine afterwards :P

Question...don't you always keep these wonder-products within easy reach? :poke:

Thanks! I have a garage full of "tried and didn't live up to expectations" products.

Tapatalking...

Interested in your method for the exhaust tips, Stuart - I do mine in-situ which is a complete pain....

Piece of cake. Mine are lovely and shiny on both cars. Great for checking my reflection on the way out :D

Same here, and an array of stuff that actually does. Jury out on the Poorboys wheel sealant, though :|

So the wire wheel method works well, does it? Might give that a try this weekend. Something to do whilst its peeing down with rain

Alpina exhausts aren't a mirror finish, so don't go applying wire wool to Chrome! :o

Mark, I'm planning on doing them in situ, the outer pipes are reasonably clean, it's just the inners that are black. Having seen a few people on here clean them, and the wire wool putting my order over £100 so free delivery, I thought "why not" :)

My priority is to get the bodywork properly clean before it goes into the paintshop.

Come on Ade, spill the beans! Mine aren't shiny enough, previous owner seems to have used wire wool or something similar on them. I've tried various products including duraglit to try and get them smooth and shiny, but they still have fine scratches on them :headbang: Frustrating as the rest of the car is in pretty good condition.

Autosol is all I use, Mark, applied weekly on a cheap microfibre using a see-saw motion :dizzy: Works a treat, and ours were very crappy on the RS when we bought her. If there are any tar spots (usually there are :o ), a wipe with Isoprop or a tar remover 1st and hey presto, super shiny again :smart: I've never used 00-grade (or any other) wire wool on them :o

I bought some autosol and it works a treat. Maybe t-cut would get those scratches out Mark?

Mine you Ade does have far too much time on his hands for polishing his cars! :-)

Is it time for a shiny pipe picture pageant competition?

Can't wait to see the results Stuart

Very jealous of all this detailing and respraying going on... My front bumper and bonnet need sorted...

As for exhaust tips, don't yours pull off ? I take mine off to clean them now, with a liberal dose of autosol - much easier than in situ.

I have the same issue with my 04 3.0, I don't think I have removable tips. I've tried autosol & had the dremel out which has made them better, but not perfect by any means...am I doing something wrong?
