Time for a change.....

17 years of ownership may / is coming to an end, im slightly struggling to come to terms with that, i guess ive gotten more attached than i thought possible, its just a piece of metal right?

Bitter sweet. i bloody love my z4m, i absolutely adore it, to me its so so special, its been in magazines, its been the face of my business, its great for marketing, its been with me though some of the toughest times of my life as you'd expect for owning it nearly half of my life, but after my recent near death experience with cancer, ive come to a way of living where i just do what i want when i can because to be quite frank life is short and having stage 3 cancer at 36 was eye opening to say the least, this completely changed my direction and i live in such a freer way with nothing but gratitude, that was a REAL gift. i LOVE this car but.... i think its time to move forward now and start again with a new love affair. The only thing that worries me is i will sorely miss this thing and have regret such is the quality of the build and the driving experience, i call it the poor mans spyder RS . I will do my best to keep it now i have more space at work ( we've extended our workshop) Business seems to be doing pretty well and may god bless me with that to continue and the prices of the cars i want are coming down, its like the stars are aligning. im 40 this october and for my 40th, a birthday i didn't think i was going to see, id love to get into my new car if possible. So..... Currently working with oracle finance to make something special happen and i'm going for a coupe for once! Im either going to LOVE this experience or cry in my cereal that I've made a huge mistake. FWIW i have 3 SERIOUS buyers lined up for the z4m.

two cars i really like atm, ( i going to view / drive the blue Gt4 RS today.) i Really have a soft spot for the ruby star colour but the blue is calling me! i'm not sure at all.

Everyone tell me i'm doing the right thing please and i wont look back!

Do it!

Very few people get the chance to own cars like these, if you are in a position to do so then 100% go for it. :driving:

My thoughts too if i'm honest, work will be heavily involved with this purchase have no shame in admitting that. This car will be heavily marketing for us in the Detailing/PPF sector which is our main source of revenue.

I’m the same as you Byron, I absolutely adore mine but I also think the time has come to move on as I’m just not driving it.
I may do a For Sale thread to test the water. If you can get one of those you’ve posted then wow, go for it

Even better, a bona fide reason for the purchase.

Ive been watching your posts and felt like you were on the same road.... after nearly 20 years i dont think our moves are hasty. This is very much a toe in the water and this thread may even be a-bit early to the party but this the current direction i'm heading down, i've never purchased a car so expensive so i'm currently working on the numbers and the commitment but i'm likely going to make the jump. These have been on a downward spiral for a while so the key factor being these don't continue to fall in value as the cars aren't moving.

to give an example, the company bough a retro car to help me get into the retro / classic car detailing sector... it cost us 8k by the time id finished it, its now returned around 32k in direct sales in 14 months, plus its a great asset to own. If you follow me on socials im very active with the marketing for work so this purchase is very much business related, i just benefit from it which is a win win.

You know you gotta do it bud, onwards and upwards, sign the finance agreement and enjoy :poke:

As discussed, got to be the Ruby :D

Byron, sometimes life gives us reminders we’re not here forever mate and I’m a believer that you don’t want to regret missed opportunities that come your way.
For what it’s worth mate, Go for it! You’ve clearly chewed this one over for a while and keep coming back to the same scratch - the universe is telling you something 👍

i like your way of putting it.... yeah i agree, ive been wanting to do this for a long time, 17 years owning a car is marriage levels of commitment, lol.

Good luck and go for it. I have an obvious soft spot for 718 Caymans and I just love the 4RS. Prices have dropped considerably over the last year or so and lightly used cars are pretty much list. I am rather partial to the Shark blue but I am also keen on the Ultra Violet one in Tewkesbury.

Absolutely, I sold my Z4M for a 911-50th and the difference is huge between the cars (Porsche and BMW). You can’t go wrong with them, especially in a manual guise (I trust you will go manual :poke: ).

As you can see through Porsche history, the manual cars are the ones that increase the most. After 10 years this year, I am still about 30-40 up compared to what I paid for it new.

I had a very close shave a few years ago Byron. My wife was told survival rate was 4%. It certainly changed our outlook on life. We still consider big decisions carefully but if either of us really wants something. Then providing we can afford it we go ahead. For me, like you every day is a bonus. I’m in agreement with everyone else. Go for it.

I probably like it because it’s the opposite of shy, retiring, quiet me

A car like that has to be loud and standoutish, that colour certainly is. I also liked the blue, very much like Misano

Resale, going to be one of those things, rarer, louder colours you always take a punt on, but someone will be looking for one that colour and spec if you’re looking to shift it on down the line.

Anyway, go for it and whatever you decide, health and happiness to enjoy it

As far as cars go, I can’t think of a better recipe than a GT4RS. If you can, you should

Have you considered a Boxster Sypder RS or whatever it’s called? I always miss a roadster when I get rid of one, so it’s worth weighing up how much importance you place on having a roof that comes down. Doesn’t look as cool with the roof up as the Cayman though.

Either way, do it!
