TIG welding (rear box hanger snapped)

Hi forum,

I have been informed that the rear exhaust box hanger has snapped (and studs/down pipe fixings are corroded). From searching the forum this appears to be a fairly common problem.

To fix the snapped hanger the indy has recommended they remove the relevant part(s) and send them to a local engineer they outsource MIG welding to. They are coming back to me on availability/exact cost and I can't remember whether the £200-300 they quoted was the welders likely costs or the total cost.

So I guess I am asking:
a) is £200-300 reasonable for welding costs alone?
b) is £200-300 reasonable if this covers everything (labour costs for removing/refitting exhaust, replacing corroded fixings/studs, welding)?

I thought that £200-300 sounded expensive if this is just the welders costs but having no experience/knowledge so I may be completely unjustified in thinking this. In south-east if it makes a difference.

Also, does anyone have any photos that of snapped hangers on the rear box?

Cheers

Mine had snapped when I bought the car, I welded it just using my hobby mig welder. Two years later it was still secure but ended up buying a stainless system. If you were near me I’d weld it for you for say £20/£40. That price they quoted seems a bit harsh.

Seems a bit expensive. I got some welding done on my M exhaust boxes in past couple of years and including new Hangers sourced from internet, the whole lot was only around £150
The 4 new stainless steel hangers were around £90, so labour for welding etc was £60.

That seems expensive to me too!

When I got my MC one of the back-boxes had no bracket on it.

It had Powerflow back boxes and I found a Powerflow agent in Slough who made up a bracket and welded it on for £30. :D

Shame as I could have taken it to work and welded it for the price of a large bar of chocolate as I don't drink
