What’s the situation with garages and work on cars? I have mine booked for a bit of work next week including new brake pads, discs and headlight washer jet. All are MOT failure items so are garages open in these new national lockdown rules and is this work considered essential?

Just look st the .gov website. It's all there but for convenience, yes they are, as are businesses offering MOT's. Not quite the complete lockdown of earlier last year

Thanks both. I checked the .gov website but it sounded sketchy on details.
Appreciate the feedback

Garages are considered key due to maintaining vehicles of other key workers.
I work for BMW and you wouldn’t believe the amount of Police vehicles we service and as they also use Vauxhalls, Skoda, Fords etc all mainstream garages are staying open but big or small they all fall into the same category I believe

In England at least, garages are allowed to open for servicing and repair. Classed as an essential service. Car showrooms however are an No No.

Had an email from my Hyundai dealer today to say open as normal for service and MOTs but sales staff are working remotely. They were pretty good when I took my Kona in for a service over Christmas, all service staff wearing masks and the showroom clearly marked out etc, showroom display cars were all locked with signs on them not too touch.

Tim.

You’ll be ok, especially where you’re going

Had mine book in for test yesterday (Tuesday) - garage phoned Monday evening to check I would still bring it in. Social distanced (secret service) drop keys through letter box; pay by phone collect keys from attached petrol station in the evening car parked on fore court but all worked.

... and through the test with no advisories
