Ticking . . . Update . . .

I had the same problem in winter. Switched the oil and got some Millers on the recommendation of Mr Wilks. It's a lot thicker so it doesn't drain out as much/fast. Worked a treat!

Interesting - thanks for that, I might buy the Millers and give it to the Indy :)
How many litres does it take?

Went to Manchester yesterday - motorway blast :driving:
Just started her up this morning cold and no ticking :D

Thinking back - when I recorded the loud ticking it was on a Friday after 5 days of short commutes and no evening drives. Seems to fit with the diagnosis given in this post.

Lots of different specs to choose from Colin but something like this will be fine http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6L-Millers-Oils-NANODRIVE-EE-LongLife-ECO-5w30-Full-Synthetic-Engine-Oil-6-Litre-/152219444752?hash=item2370fc6610:g:OdEAAOSwdGFY3oMx
Its not any thicker its the qualities of the oil to function from cold & also at high temps that Millers seem particularly good at
Both of which scenarios are probably the times when decent oil is earning its money

Of course you could always leave earlier for work and take the scenic route :driving: and the same on the way home. Avoids the short commute then

 :driving: To be honest we often drop the roof and whiz off to Lytham after work for a walk along the beach, but I recall last week was just work and back for 5 days.

Cheers Andy, I will buy it and give to the Indy on Friday

Been out for a spin, recorded this afterwards - no ticking :)
- recorded in the same position and location as the 'ticking' audio from Friday

. . . . . . I'll shut up now about me ticking

Still doesn't sound right to me, chirping noises like a disgruntled budgie trying to nest in there somewhere. I think this could be your problem
