Ticking noise from engine? Check your DISA

for the last year, i have had a ticking noise from the engine even on idle. The sound sounds like an old engine or a badly worn engine. After attending a cruise, i was informed that it was my disa that is a vacuum device on the side of the engine. I went out and bought the part hoping to fix the engine problem without having to do any major work to the engine. The installation took 1 minute as advised when i purchased the part and the results were great

Symptoms:

Engine ticking sound
when going from light pedal on 2nd gear to no pedal whilst still in gear, the car jolts and the rev needle shakes around 500rpm variance.
slight power loss in vanos

For a while, i have thought my clutch was gone causing the engine to jolt on 2nd gear everytime i cruised without and acceleration pressure. After the DISA change, the jolt has gone and power delivery is once again SMOOTH. The transition into vanos is also smooth but the feel of the valve timing engaging is once again there.

Part: 400AUD

wow I did not know it could pose so many problems. SOmetimes when in a traffic jam, the car judders slightly back/forward when going around 900Rpm in 1st gear, coudl this have nything to do with the DISA flap? Guess ill have to give mine a check anytime soon :)

if you take it into service, Make sure to not get ripped off by them changing the MAF sensor. The disa is a simple swap out part or you can clean it.

do you have a picture of the part and where it is placed on the engine????????

never mind, shipkiller did a great job of showing it on another post
