Throttle sticks for a second

Just took the M out for the first time in a while and I noticed that when I lift off the pedal the revs don't drop for a second. It's never done it before, what would it be, perhaps a sticking throttle body?

Thanks

Possibly, TPS sensor could be another culprit. Be worth checking for fault codes first, may well have one that hasn't stored as an EML fault yet.

Otherwise airbox off and have a look around for any linkage that might need some lube, clean out ICV and the throttle bodies while you are in there. Not too bad of a job and good to do once in a while in any case.

If your taking the airbox off you might as well do the tps down there at the same time, 30 quid for a new one, infact do them both

Agreed if it's never been done, worth doing. £30 though, you sure? Thought more like £100 these days :o I wouldn't go anything other than Genuine with TPS's, heard bad things about copies.

They've gone up, used to be 30 each for the oem Hella :|

BTW, have you seen the price of OEM wiper blades now :?

Don't dare look! I only say about the TPS sensors as there was a thread on Cutters recently someone saying Hella don't make them anymore so you can't get the OEM copies cheaper like you could  I vaguely remember someone saying BMW want around £100 for one now.
Hoping I don't need to replace anything like that soon, M tax getting out of control

Thats a pain Hella not making them anymore as I need 2 - last price for them on Autodoc was £52, so roughly half the price of BMW.

If Hella no longer make them, I wonder who is the OEM supplier now?

I had a similar hesitant throttle and BMW fixed it by a no cost to me fix which according to the head tech basically involved cycling the accelerator pedal sensor was playing up. I suspect they just sprayed it with contact cleaner and wiggled it a lot.

I guess the cars are getting to that age now, I've replaced a lot of the sensors, knock sensors coil packs to keep it running sweet. Exhaust mounts next... Don't look how much they are

I bought one for 32USD earlier this year. Cannot find the same price last week. I spent 62 this time

As a quick test once the plenum is off, take the linkage off the throttle actuator and manually open/close the throttle bodies.

You will be able to feel of there is any mechanical resistance which, as above, can often be remedied by cleaning and lubricating the ITBs and/or their shaft bearings. It should feel effortless and they should close with a satisfying “thunk”.

If it’s the shaft bearings that are sticky, you will probably only be able to fix the issue temporarily (especially in winter!), as what is really needed is a full rebuild of the assembly with new or re-greased needle bearings. Don’t have the link handy, but this is documented elsewhere on the forum.

I was going to suggest the fly by wire throttle peddle
