Throttle disconnecting to the engine

Hi.

Over the last couple of days, when driving my 2003 Z4 hard, the throttle has disconnected from the engine. The engine still runs but the throttle is unresponsive and I have to turn the key anticlockwise one click and then back clockwise one click in order to reset and re-engage the throttle. This has happened multiple times, usually between 3000 - 5000 revs when accelerating in 3rd or 4th gear.

I have a little black box installed as part from my insurance with direct line and somebody told me that these black boxes have the ability to shut down the engine if it thinks you are driving too hard. Is this true? If not, has anyone else come across this problem and what could be the cause of it?

Many thanks for your help.

This might be worth a try.

THROTTLE ADAPTATION RESET

If you have different people driving your car, or have been doing a lot of town driving, this can help to reset the throttle responsiveness back to factory defaults.

Turn ignition off
Turn key to "on" position
Wait 15 seconds
Turn ignition off
Wait another 15 seconds

Start the car.... you should find the responsiveness has been reset.

I would have thought it's an urban myth that the black box can control your car.
What if it caused a fatal accident they'd be up for a massive claim.
