Hi everyone - looking forward to becoming part of the forum.

Just picked up my E85 2004 in Berlin this past weekend. It's and automatic and has 188.000 km on i, but runs silky smooth - both engine and transmission. No VANOS problems and shifting smoothly and quickly. Planning to keep the car for a decade if engine and transmission will play along for that long :driving: A few things to be fixed, a lot of it I will do myself, e.g.

- Changing liquids - engine, brakes, transmission
- New filters
- New cupholder
- New brake light on boot
- LED lighting
- New "springs" on boot cover
- Cleaned drain holes for soft top
- Polished headlights (can definitely recommend - easy and now as brand new)
- Cleaned soft top and gave it BMW protective coating
- Clean and polish leather interior
- New rainsensor
- Change stubby antenna for ditto, but black

All of the above was mentioned by the seller and things that are easily fixed. Will be done this weekend :D

Among more troublesome issues are:

- leaking doors (mentioned by seller and attempted fixed by BMW Berlin, but will take it to the dealer)
- Steering not firm around center (made appointment for changing steering rods, steering balls and dog bones and will take it from there)
- Soft top folding wrongly one fold in passenger side, causing it to scrape on rubber on chassis (mentioned by seller, I will experiment with tightening the bands inside the top and hope to fix it).

Despite the above I already love the car - the engine is a darling and the feeling of air is fantastic. Being a motorcyclist too I was expecting a lot - and got even more. Could cost the lives of two of my three bikes.

The car is fully equipped with all the extras available back in 2004 - even bluetooth for my phone. NAVI, electric seats w. memory, HIFI, PDC, heated seats, climate system, hydraulic motor in the boot, Xenon, headlight washer, radio controlled on steering wheel, automatic lights, fog lights, cruise control, wind deflector - all except the rain sensor working.

Hi and welcome - roadster well done

Looks good in the photos. What colour is the roof fabric?

Wilkomen in onz forum ! lol
Where in Germany are you?
Zed looks great and I like the softop colour. It compliments the paint really well.
I'm expecting to see a few more additions to your to-do list, especially a leaking cam cover gasket, if it hasn't been renewed already?
Look for signs of an oil leak at the back of the engine block. The gaskets all fail, without fail, eventually.
Instead of wasting money at the dealer, take the doorcards off yourself and inspect the membranes for any gaps or tears as this will be the most likely cause of water-ingress.

Original colour is Gray (three options from factory - Black, Grey and Beige). Can't really tell you what color it has changed into

I am actually Danish - but imported the car as the selection in Germany is so much bigger than in DK - and it saves me a bit of money, if the car is not worse than average ;-).

As for the leaking cam cover gasket - I have two receipts from BMW workshop saying the following:

1) Zylinderkopfhaube ab- und anbauen/abdichten + Sats Profildichtung
2) Hauptstromfilter aus- und einbauen + dichtung + O-ring

Would no. 1 be what you mention? It was sone in 2017 at 171.000 km.

Thanks for the tip with the doors - I'll give it a shot. Usually I get quit stubborn and succeed

Welcome to the forum. Another fascinated by the roof colour. 8)

Thanks - did not realise the roof would attract this much attention - but how nice :D . I liked it myself, but thought I might be the only one since there are not many of them around. It's has got a few stains on it though but you can't have it all. Black ones fade, light ones will get stained in time...

Hi and welcome - looks like you have found a really well-specced one too.

Berlin - you live there as well? If u get a UK plated Volvo honking u on the ring road end of August you’ll know who...

Lovely ride & welcome... & if you come across any Aeros locally do please tell

Hi everyone - thank you so much for the warm wellcome :trampoline: :ilz4f:

A small contribution from my part, for what it's worth. Car wouldn't start Saturday morning at a friends house, who had by the way left for the airport = no tools, no toilet, no coffee. Called tow-truck. Battery OK, so probably starter, starter relay or grounding cables. Got it towed to my garage. Called my dad (who's 77 y.o.) for advice. "Hit the starter gently with a hammer - that should fix it". So took my E81 to the garage to hammer the Z4. Problem solved. Right now driving around with stick and hammer should it happen again :-).

Update on the improvement list: My 16. y.o. son came by yesterday (lives with his mom) and we went bezerk. Here's what we accomplished:
- New brake light on tailgate
- New rainsensor
- New micro air filter (what a hazzle to get there, even for a slim 16. y.o. )
- Cleaned and re-oiled all leather
- Silioned every piece of rubber
- Hopefylly fixed the top, which was folding wrongly
