Hello you fantastic people.
I am new to the Z4 scene, I have had mine for just over 3 weeks, it is a 2004 2.2SE with a mere 214000 miles on it. (I have already said hi in the Newbies Section) when I joined.
Now I am a bit of a "Need it right " sort of person, so as soon as I got it home I had a good look around. I had noticed a rattle on the back end on the test drives first job was to get it on axel stands and get the wheels off. This was an easy fix as it was the rear exhaust shield that had corroded through on one fixing.
After this it was where things took a bit of a turn for the worse, drivers side rear spring had broken, 4 x shock absorbers needed replacing, all the rear brake pipes and hoses were shot. so I thought in for a penny in for a pound. I have now completed the following:
4 shock absorbers.
4 suspension springs.
Rear discs and pads.
Stripped all 4 brake callipers and replaced the seals and painted them.
Replaced all the rubber brake hoses front and back.
Replaced all the rear brake lines.
New oil, air and pollen filter (Pollen filter was absolutely disgusting).
New Osram Night Breaker Headlight Bulbs
There was also a nasty oil leak on the engine so after a search on here and asking about the sumo gasket, I have replaced the oil filter housing gasket and the rocker cover gasket in the hope it will have cured it, time will tell.
These forums are a dangerous but so helpful thing, reading about Disa Valves, Idle Control Valves and Vanos I though I would check them all out. Disa Valve was broken and not doing anything so there was the first replacement , Idle Control Valve next as it is in the same area, this was also clogged up along with a split hose from it so another good job sorted.
Today I decided to strip the Vanos off it and check this, yet again it didn't look like this had been removed in its life, not the easiest of jobs as I have hands like shovels but again was a worth while job as the seals are completely shot, I am now waiting for a full replacement kit of seals and am also doing the anti rattle parts.
There are a few parts I am in need of to get her cosmetically looking better, I need a pair of front bumper to wing clips, a screw cover for the centre console (£28 each from BMW they are having a laugh). I also have 3 of the 4 clips that go on the soft top floor (Adjustable bit in the boot that gives you loads more space) that I have no idea where or how they actually fit to it, so I need another one of these.
My next jobs are mainly to sort the stereo out as I like DAB so it will be a new head unit, speakers and may be an amp? give her a bloody good clean and possibly fit cruise control. I also need to polish the headlights a bit more.
The most important job I have already done and that is to fit interior footwell lights
