Three Amigos out on a recce

It's been a few weeks since the three of us had been out together. We met in the carpark of Hexham Horseless Carriages 'HHC' - what a great name for a specialist sports car firm - (used to be the centre for TVRs). Took the opportunity to have a look at their stock - one of our group was quite interested in a small Lotus. . . . .

Always interesting motors for sale and a very friendly staff

From there we set off to take a look at a possible coffee stop for Friday at the Crown at Catton - it has a wall of folding glass doors overlooking the valley. Unfortunately it was closed when we got there to check it out :(

So we took the road to Allendale and Allenhead and called for some lunch on the way

After which we set off for some of my favourite back roads (which we travelled both ways - they really are worth it!)

Chezsherman then set a cracking pace over what we now call 'the un-named road'

before Cherrym took over on roads he knows so well and kept the pace up, back to his for a final cuppa.

It was good to be out on the road again together and the time spent over lunch and coffee is as welcome - another great day

:driving:

Roads look great chaps & good to see Zs out midweek :driving:
Do you find it easier to press on with lower numbers Paul ?

It's been a while since we last got together midweek...... Brought it all back why I like our little get togethers. Paul even had to check my name on his list before he left the house :poke:
Have a cracking run on Friday wish I was going. :driving:

That looks like a great run out. Friends Zeds and cracking roads. Thanks for sharing the fun.

That's an interesting question mr wilks . . . .

I've arranged a run starting 6.30pm on Friday this week over one of our finest twisties (A686 Alston, Hartside, Melmerby and back). Originally put together following a conversation over traffic causing holdups on a weekend day meet. At the time we realised that fewer numbers were likely to attend but it was agreed then that a small number of Zeds are easier to keep together and maintain a consistent pace. However, it's that consistent pace that makes the difference in my view; the interruption of slower traffic can frustrate the enjoyment of a flowing drive rather than the numbers in a group. In April we had a terrific run up through Kielder and on to Hawick - a larger group were able to stay together and maintain an enjoyable pace for most of the run - it was the lack of intrusive slow traffic that made the difference.

When the three of us are out together it's certainly easier to keep an eye on how each dispatches slower traffic and when overtaking, alter speed as necessary to stay together. Some times one of us might press on and leave a couple behind for a time or a couple might press on and one of us take our time. We know each other and our capabilities on the road, fairly well and we do vary the pace and swop leads. all this is possible because we are a small group I would guess.

When we have a larger group on a typical Sunday hoon, it depends so much on traffic and it's not always possible to see how everyone gets on with hold ups - we normally have Chezsherman and Cherrym take station one at the rear and one in the middle in case of issues and both do an excellent job of shepherding. Nevertheless we have had 4 or 5 Zeds lost (once due to Chezsherman's bladder  ).

I guess the answer to your question is that we are friends that are like minded drivers who enjoy our Zeds and as such, all can and choose to, stay together, to make the most of the fabulous roads we have in this area.

:driving:

Looks like another great trip - you've made me envious - again!

I'm surprised that you allowed Chezsherman out with you with such a dirty car. :poke:

Both Cherrym and I were appalled - it's that colour though - Cherrym owned up to not cleaning his Zed since the Nationals yet his silver Zed looked fine (smelled a bit though but that's normal for his Zed)

Chezsherman was distraught and said it was just the one pool of dirty water at the bottom of a hill - I was surprised it wasn't all over him as well because there wasn't one bit of his Zed that wasn't splattered

Those roads.

My son was taking the photos and it's always a challenge when we are out to try and record just how much these roads have to offer - can't really do them justice.

No need for jealousy Nick - well yes, I suppose there is really  We had a great run out.

Everyone keeps asking me where I've been on holiday - it's the tanned face and hands from having the roof down on the Zed (this happen to anyone else?)

:driving:

Looks like a great run out, the roads look very inviting - will we be using them on Sept 13th? :driving:

Hi Marlon,

Not on the 13th no - these roads are in the North Pennines, south of the Tyne. I intend to put another Sunday all day run on in Oct, after the summer traffic has died down and it will include these roads - already in discussion.

:driving:
