Hi all-looking over various interweb stories,it appears to be affordable, ive read 16,000 brand new with no frills, nice looking tho,is there any concrete news anyone?

Havnt heard anything "concrete"...but i hope they do roduce this,as would be very interested in one in the future :D

based on the 1 series... hope it doesnt have that same fugly front end as the new 1 series.

Anyone notice the date on that article, june 2009.

Wasn't the latest thing that there will be front wheel drive Z based on the mini convertible, a new Z3 based on the I series pushing the current e89 into Z5 territory.

Covered very recently in this thread

My interest in the Z2 hinges purely on weather it will be RWD, if not then forget it and BMW have sold out their core value.

If it is RWD (there is still a chance, a lot of people expected the upcoming 1series to be FWD but they stuck with the traditional layout) then this has the makings of a superb car. Back to basics, lightweight roadster. People on PH have been crying about the phasing in of turbo 4 pots. Sure who wouldn't prefer an N/A six, but 240bhp (the tuners will be seeing 300bhp with light mods) and 45mpg+ on the combined cycle sounds good to me. Unlike the E89 there may even be a chance i can afford a new one!

If they base it on the MINI platform then i'll have no choice but to buy a Porsche next, which i'd rather not have to do :(

+1

It looks more and more likely to be built on MINI's UKL FWD platform. :(
Last I heard, base engine could be a 3 cyl turbo (but with 180 hp!) As long as a 4 cyl is available, power would be OK, but I can't get past FWD. :headbang:

If the Z2 goes FWD then the good news is VW are still going to build the Bluesport roadsters.

Who would have thought it, turning to VW because they are offering a better drivers car than BMW
