Thoughts on wheel colour

On the list for my new to me E85 is a wheel refurb, so a chance for a colour change. I’m leaning towards anthracite or gun metal. Not a fan of black wheel on a black car, but I’d like something little more interesting than the ‘standard’ silver on black look.

Any thoughts, or even better, any examples you can share on a black car to help steer me?

I'm not a fan of black wheels on any car as you can't really see the style of wheel in black.

When I had my wheels refurbed in 2021 I was going to go for Shadow Chrome, but the firm doing them explained they get a coat of black and one of silver so it never comes out quite the same each time. So I went off the idea because if I kerbed one I'd need to get at least 2 redone so they matched!

So no photos but I'm sure a quick google would find you plenty of examples.

Change the wheels, not the colour. MV2s are soo boring.

CSL reps look so good (in silver) on an old Z4. :D

I had my E89 refurbed in a dark grey BMW colour and kind of regretted it, so when I got the G29 done I did them in shadow chrome E89.jpg 20240529_142314.jpg

Bronze looks good, especially for a black car. Although, recently, it seems to be replacing black as the default wheel colour choice for sports cars, so you might want something more original. My Zed has these:

I recently changed the OEM black wheels on my Lotus and had the replacements powder coated. Although not called shadow chrome, that’s effectively the colour. It changes significantly depending on the available light (unlike the rusty hub centre which remains ugly and will be addressed):
