Thoughts on this e86 please

Looking to move up from my current 2 litre to this three litre. Wheels will have to go and some paintwork to the lower front. Got someone who can sort the seat out locally but what are you thoughts on the auto box with paddle shift. Never used one before.

Also the roof issue. Motor or not??

Going to view it Monday morning.

Keep an inspection on rear tryres tread

Mot history seems ok you know about the wheels,the seat, may need windscreen if not been done.
Springs are common and brake pipes, these cars are 10 yrs + now.
Have roof motor relocated into boot.
Is that an after market exhaust ? Will it drone ? Too noisy?

But You need to go and see it and drive it to see if Auto is what you want.
If it's cheap enough with little spend could be made into a nice car.
I would never buy unseen. Good luck viewing Monday.

The auto whilst less involving on those weekend runs is no slouch & when pushed hard feel much quicker from the off than Si manual
Roof isnt the kick in the stones it once was but allow £250ish
Front bumper (lower edges ) needs attention allow £200ish
Factor in a decent service £200
Wheels :rofl: epic disaster & allow £400/£500
Seats aren't heated & again require a makeover which is doable with time & effort allow £50ish
Car if mint 105k auto on decent shoes ? £5500 / £6500 :?

Certainly a nice colour combo but based on the above & should the car check out on paperwork & drive well / sound right / feel right i would set your figure around £4/£4500

Don't sweat it with the auto. When I was buying, for the first time ever, I decided that I would just see what turned up, auto or manual. I ended up with an auto. I occasionally miss having a manual, but only very rarely. It can be pretty much just as involving in its own way. I've heard that the manual box isn't one of the better ones anyway (and I was sure to be disappointed with that after a Type-R Honda), but you can change the gears yourself in Sport+Manual mode, so you get just as much control in the bends using the stick or the shifters on the wheel. Some people say they don't use the wheel shifters but I do actually use them occasionally. Its great when you're just trundling from A-B, so lazy and effortless. I'm not sure I'd ever own another manual again unless I had more than one car (like a toy for the weekend and a daily driver), but I guess I'm getting old and lazy

Hi James. Enjoyed our run out last Sunday...an excellent day. I agree with the other comments already made. It's a nice colour/interior combination, the autobox + paddles will give you the best of both worlds. The wheels are hideous but is an easy fix, as is paint and roof motor.
A nice car although the mileage would be a bit high for me. Hope it checks out ok on Monday. Keep us posted.

Actually one other thing I forgot to mention about the auto seeing as its my first, [in manual mode] its kind of quite amusing that it can change gear quicker than I ever could and I don't even have to lift off the throttle, so in a way I can imagine its actually quicker in the real world.

No need to imagine mate , i honestly believe in 99% of forum drivers a auto 3.0Si would be away to 60 quicker than a ///M :wink:
The autoboxes aren't sluggish at all & with sport button on feel mighty quick with foot hard down :driving:

The add says electric heated seats - they aren't heated. Wheels are awful and tailpipes are very odd too. That ink stain on the drivers side could be a bugger to remove - may require whole seat painting. Colour is right IMO and if its an auto you're after then I guess it comes down to how it drives on the day and whether you can buy it at a price that allows you to sort out the cosmetics.

E86 has a tiptop.

Facelift roadsters are still E85's.

Not my thing though, wheels are easy fix, but colour combination for me

I have to agree that paddle shifting is fast. My previous car, the 2003 Porsche Boxster S had "Tiptronic" switches on the steering wheel, and I found that I could preselect a lower gear before entering a corner even if I were going too fast for that gear. The car would not downshift if I were going too quickly, but as soon as I braked for the turn and then hammered the throttle I was already in the correct gear and rapidly on my way. I have not yet tried this with the BMW but I presume that the same would apply. Maybe next year after I replace the Bridgestone Potenza run-flats with conventional Michelin Pilots ?

Well just been to see this today. Although the body work was in good condition, the trader who was just pssing it on failed to mention in the advert that there was a hole in the roof, although he did promise me that it didn't leak haha.

I asked him his reserve and he wouldn't tell me but did say that the cheapest on around was about 7 grand. Very optimistic me thinks. This ones not for me, the search continues
