Thoughts on this car

I was wondering for a bit of advice on a car that I have found on eBay and as it's my first z4 was just hoping for a bit of help.

Here's the car in question.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=121017849388&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:GB:1123

I've asked the following so far:

--------------------------------------

Does the roof open and close properly - has the motor been replaced at any point in time?

Were there any advisories on the last MOT?

What tyres are currently fitted to the car (make) and what is the remaining tread on those tyres that aren't new. Do the tyres match all round?

Do you have any pictures off the inside of the car - are the seats in good condition and is there any damage to the seat bolsters?

Does the rear demister work correctly?

--------------------------
Is there anything else I should be asking/looking out for?

Should I be put of by the higher mileage at 88k as ideally wanted something nearer to 60k but it's been well serviced and kept on top off.

Thanks for any help.

am no roadster expert but the car appears well cared for history wise & 88k on the 3.0 is no worry at all (i,m on 90k & its silent & sweet)
the price is not extreme & if all is as seems then you shouldn't have to spend anytime soon .
plus its in a terrific paint colour with low owners for 8years old ?
is it not possible to view or as i have done in the past put your bid in based on satisfactory testdrive/inspection ?
good luck & welcome

Thanks for that I'd actually not checked previous owners in all fairness.

All being well I'd like to go and view it on Saturday so I won't put a bid in for the time being.

Paint does also look in good condition I agree.

Thank you for you're welcome and assistance :)

if you are going to view 2 things i found on my zed were -
1) in-operative aircon & rear window demist / due to battery failure at some point & the car reverting to some sort of electrical shutdown . this cost me around £90 to get decoded & reset
2 ) front suspension arms causing slight knock/rattle over bumps , approx £150 for this & quite a common fault i think
sure others will chip in with some soft top things to check . . weepholes & motors not a concern for me
hope the viewing goes well

Hi Pal, I pass that Rybrook dealer every time I go to work! :) Certainly looks like it's been cared for. I've been searching recently and it's tough to find a car with a good service history. People don't seem to bother! Very Frustrating. Definately looks worth a viewing.

AlanJ posted this on my Newbie thread and it's certainly useful when doing a viewing:

Good luck! :)

Tbh with regard to the roof motor you take pot luck, unless you know it's been changed recently. Even facelift cars are suffering motor failures now.

Thanks for that mate I've got it printed it off ready to take with me haha.

On the face of it it's exactly the sort of condition, history & MOT you should look for, given all this the price seems right even with the mileage. Providing it's HPI clear, has no history of accidents and ALL systems are working (I missed the passengers window lifter when I bought mine) then it looks spot on.

Also happens to be a nice unmodified example, fully gingered, complete with French fries and a whippy, in the best colour combo, I'de buy it

This was the other sterling grey I had found but on calling the chap it needs:

1 tyre replacing.
Front Discs are pitted and Pads need replacing.
Not been serviced for 2 years so needs that.

I've worked out it needs near £850 spending on it to get right.

I paid a fair bit less than that for a lower mileage car but it was not mint and needed two new tyres. Assuming that one is mint seems a fair price to me migh get it for 5800 if o make an offer and that would be a good deal I'd say.

Well thanks for everyone's help I ended up picking this last night.

I was driving home like a Cheshire cat, really enjoyed it and was such a lovely drive home.

I'm really happy with the car it's got a decent spec and the only thing that isn't working/needs doing is the rear parking sensors.

I've done the checks as I'd seen on this forum and there is one of the sensors not buzzing on the right hand side so I've contacted my local BMW garage and they're quoting me a price for a new sensor painted in sterling grey.

I've got a couple of days off next week so will be going over the car, cleaning and hoovering it.

This coming weekend I'll be heading off to the Derbyshire Dales so I can't wait.

I'll get pictures up next week hopefully.

PS - i'll get a donation contributed to the forum as this will now be my regular stop.

Well as promised here are pictures of my new Z4 - so far I absolutely love it.

I was off work today so had chance to clean it properly and give it the polish, glaze, wax etc.
