Thoughts on putting M badges on a non M car ?

I think there is a difference between M cars and M-sport accessories.
My car is an M-sport so it comes with those accessories from the factory.
If anyone wants to put M stickers on their cars, that's up to them.
What I don't get is the aggression you get from a small number of M owners who think just because they own an M they have complete copyright to the badge. Live and let live is what I say!

Sorry to correct you but BMW did not produce M-Sport Z4s until the E89.

E85/E86 Z4s are either SE, Individual or Sport to my knowledge.

Regarding M-Sport and Z4 1st and 2nd gen cars. It's confusing as the 1st gen 'sport' Z4s have 'M-Sport' options such as M-Sport seats and alloys

That's why I called it M-sport. Confusing yes!
M badges on the wheels, steering wheel and now the zhp gear knob!
3.0si badge on the wings, no M badges there!

I’m not a fan of badging something it’s not but feel that bumpers are fine to swap. It’s like having a pre face lift and getting rid of all the amber lenses and swapping to a face lift bumper and tails. Besides going with a M rear bumper gives a great excuse to fit a quad.

Now not to hijack a thread but should I debage the 2.5i and put the ESS badge that I have in its place? Been wondering if I should or keep it sleeper looking.

IMO - quads should only be fitted to M cars.

(It would be embarrassing to pull up at a traffic light after installing quad exhausts and get smoked by a remapped Golf GTI.)

Isn’t it embarrassing even with dual :poke: Honestly I don’t have to worry about too many golfs here, but a lot of American muscle cars. For the average muscle car around it’s more of an embarrassment for them when they can’t hold a corner like we can. I don’t think any of us here bought our cars expecting to decimate the 1/4 mile.

I agree with you if the quad is your only performance mod. If you’ve gone f/i and really done bits of supporting mods first why not go quad? I’m looking at eventually face lifting the tail lights and since I have to get a new bumper anyway figured I’d toy with the idea then.

I guess the only exception to the rule would be if you supercharged or turbocharged a non-M to make the same power or more than the equivalent M car. Only then quad exhausts wouldn’t look stupid imo.

All kidding aside. At the end of the day it comes down to taste and that's a personal subjective choice. That said the only way to be sure no one is sniggering and laughing at you is dont put m badges on an non m or these days m sport car. If you genuinely don't care what anyone else thinks then fill your boots and put plenty on if you want to, just know folks will be watching and laughing!

OP - you will get blasted by @mbadgewankers on Instagram.

All jokes aside, I go by the below rule of thumb:

If the car is an M or M-Sport which has been debaged, then it is fine to rebadge your missing M badges (as long as authentic badges are used and they are placed correctly).

If the car is a non-M, I would advise not putting on M badges because other BMW drivers will know what you have done and will most probably laugh at you.

At the end of the day, M is a separate line within BMW Group who tune and enhance standard BMWs. If you want the badge, buy an M car [or M-Sport trim if you cannot afford an M].

Never knew that Instagram existed. My new favourite follow & just lost myself for an hour lol.

So..... you're saying we should remove the M badges on the steering wheels and wheels that came from the factory as M-sport options?
Bit extreme :(
