Had a look at this car today.

Couldn't test drive unless I struck a deal to purchase. No movement on price as thats the 'January' price.

Just wandered what people with more Z4 experience than me thought of it.

TIA.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I could drive it after agreeing to the car and the price. Couldn't drive it first as 'it gets dirty.

Don’t like the sound of that, no one would buy without a drive........would they? :idunno:

I kind of get it. He wants a commitment to the car, I suppose. I certainly wouldn't pay until I'd driven it.

Any thoughts on the car? Worth the money?

If he wants a committment you can give him a deposit as a financial committment after you have test driven it and are happy that there are no problems.

I would not commit to spend that amount of money without test driving it first. I would be suspicious and I would take my custom elsewhere.

That's kind of what I did... after a 2 hour drive from Southampton to Gillingham and less than 30 minutes looking at the car!

From the autotrader site one of the reviews.. Been a review of them on the site already

When purchasing a car from these guys bring a mechanic or better yet two, and be sure to test drive at ALL speeds, so that hopefully any faults will quickly become evident, because once you are parted from your money it will be too late. They will readily sell you absolute junk whilst being otherwise pleasant and smile in your face. Also take their warranty with a grain of salt because god help you should a part actuallhttps://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=102763&sid=f943be6ca1cb1077069857b0e19b54c8#y need replacing, they will be very reluctant to do so and will do all in their power to deny that anything is wrong in the first place. They represent the epitome of dodgy used car salesmen who very much live up to type. Avoid like the plague

I wouldn’t ever hand any money over for a test drive.

Alarm bells have started ringing and IMO quite rightly. They dont sound open and honest so wouldn’t get my business.

I'd forget that car and carry on looking.

With a pocket full of money you should be calling the shots (within reason) and they should be doing their best to accommodate your requests. A test drive and negotiation on screen price are both a fair request IMO.

Did they take your phone number?

What bizarre behaviour from the trader. Surely the whole pint of a test drive is a) to check that's the car you want (when you've not driven that model before) and b) the the camp actually drives properly.

That alone would cause me to look elsewhere and the review mentioned would. Onfirm that's the right thing to do.

Hope you don't buy that one and you find another soon.

Yep, still looking.

Was keen to drive it to see how much more firm the suspension was compared to non M.

I'll find one.

The Z4 looks worth considering, however the trader has shot himself in the foot asking for a commitment to buy at the screen price before allowing a test drive :?

Not a good way to run a car sales business, why would you agree to buy an old car that you have not tried

Doesn't sound good - I wouldn't commit to a five figure sum before I drove the car! :o

All of the above. With the attitude of the trader they wouldn’t get a penny of my money no matter how cheap a car is (which this one isn’t )

Thanks, all.

Out of interest, what sort of price should I be looking at for similar spec cars?

Have a look at www.evanshalshaw.co.uk . They have a wide selection of around 40 E89s & prices appear very fair .
