Thought on Chrome Grill instead of Black?

I was considering bucking the black grill trend on my e86 and fitting fully chrome on my si sport what already came with the satin n chrome surround grill, twas thinking a chrome finish would complement my CSL alloys?
Your thoughts please......maybe a vote pole??? Not sure how to to that though.....any moderators able to help please?

I wasn't a fan of the grey slats that 3 litres got as standard, to the extent I bought a pair of chrome with black slats for my previous Coupe. Luckily my current one came fitted with all black which I think works well on a Silver Grey car.

But I can't help thinking all chrome might look a bit bling, but it's your choice.

It can't be too tricky to start a poll seeing as I have started a couple!

Start a new post and you'll see 3 options at the bottom left below the text box. The 3rd one is Poll Creation. Just go from there and if you aren't sure try the preview button before you click "submit".

Thanks for your input Sir, still undecided on the grill idea. Unless this thread gets a lot of traffic I'll probably leave the post, but Thanks

If trying to paint the grills yourself a chrome finish is difficult but not impossible to achieve.

You can get a special chrome lacquer if you google for it.

Otherwise you'll end up with a chromeline finish like interior door pulls and steering wheel trims have on the interior if you use normal lacquer.

If you don't lacquer the chrome paint it probably won't last very long but depends on your mileage.

I'll probably save my original grills and get the cheaper ebay ones for about £40 if I go for it.....

Perhaps an interesting alternative would be to fit the black surrounds to the chrome slats? Slightly less full-on bling, just the slats might actually look great 8)

Alternatively, you could look into getting them satin chrome finished? So a matte gloss finish but still a silver hue. Alfa does it a lot on their mirror caps on the sportier models. Pic as an example

A quick google brings up pics of Z4s with all chrome grilles, maybe do that and decide yourself. Its your car at the end of the day and you have to drive it, doesn't matter what we think! Personally I think it looked awful, for what its worth

Morning chaps
Tried holts headlight restorer today and was impressed at £13.99 from euro parts .
Comes with 8 round sanding pads , 800g 1000 1500 3000, a decent drill adapter and buffing pad , abrasive cutting paste and the clear lacquer protector and buffing cloths for the lacquer. I kept it on slow mode on the drill which works best , though I did try on fast speed and had to clean the car and me lol. Great instructions takes around 15mins per side but I did it longer ,
Splendid chaps
Tally ho , chocks away

I think you're right! All chrome wouldn't be a good look. :(

In case it helps here's a photo of my Montego Coupe with chrome surrounds and black slats - I thought they looked much better than the OE grey slats.

I also got a zunsport black grille for the lower part, it looks the part actually, really modernises it in my view

Do you have any pictures or a link you could send please, I've never heard of the above.

Don't waste money on the grills. Mine came with black ones which I changed as soon as possible. Keep it factory.

I actually popped a pic of it on my little build thread here https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=142500&start=15 scroll to the last post.

They are available on the zunsport website, if you buy directly from it they will send you one with a zunsport logo welded to the front. To get them without that on they need to make one at the factory, takes an extra couple of weeks. I do have a discount card as well which gets 15% off, if you want to use the code you can.

Thanks for sharing your photos, definitely not liking the ALL block and the original looks much better, but I think my personal preference is black with the chrome surround.

That's most kind, are you able to supply the code? ( private message?) Thanks Tom
