Thought on a car?

Was looking at http://www.goldcarsltd.co.uk/used-cars/bmw-z4-2-5i-2dr-auto-evesham-201311079742041
any advice? it says its manual seats but looks like its not?
anyone got anything I should look for?

One of the "french fry" strips on the rear lights is missing. It is auto seats. Tyres look like budget Ling-Long brand or similar. There are better examples for the money. All wheels look they've been driven hard against a kerb

124,000 miles is high, but I'm sure will take it on a 6 cylinder
Don't like those wheels that look too wide for the tyres fitted. A bit Euro look.
Has the less desirable grey hood
No Sat nav, aftermarket radio and added to what Adamski says just looks a bit average to me and I'd look elsewhere

Do you particularly want an auto?
Leather seats are not sport seats
Adamski's right, the wheel look well scored and I'm not sure how straight-forward that would be to sort out that finish
Bodywork looks straight but hard to tell from photos.
Any history of work done on the Zed - that can make a difference at this end of the market.
All Zeds that hit 100,000 take a dive in price so no need to go for 120000+ unless the price is too tempting
The 3.0 can take the mileage though with servicing.
Be patient there are plenty out there and prices are lowering all the time.

thanks for speedy reply. was going to see as first sighter...
maybe I should go see a nicer one that's sorted so I know what I want?

To be fair, I'd say the price point (If you got it for about £3.7k) reflects its mileage and flaws.

Im not sure of the hood is actually grey or faded black. Maybe some Renovo would fix this. French fry for the rear light wont be expensive, as a whole prefacelift light unit can be had for £30.

Aftermarket stereo doesn't look as good as factory, but will sound better and give more features. And hey you can always pickup a 2nd hand on ebay for £100ish,

No Sat Nav isn't a deal breaker as most people say its dated and not that great anyway. I don't have it in mine, I just use Tom Tom if and when I need it.

So it's a lot down to budget, personally I would probably not bother looking at this one, and spend an extra 1-1.5k on a much better example. But if your budget is under £4k then it doesn't look too bad at first glance.

Hope this helps

Dan - it is a grey hood, not a faded black one. It even has a less desirable grey plastic interior.

In terms of comments such as a French fry can be added, I agree, but to me it's a clear sign of neglect, alongside all the other flaws.

I agree it's priced to reflect flaws, but for a bit more you can get a clean cared for example. End of the day by the time you've sorted the rims, added a few bits needed, then you could have got a tidy example and almost certainly less than 100k.

The rear bumper looks like it's had a bit of a knock to me, the gap between it and the rear wing is larger on the N/S when compared to the O/S.

Drivers side looks like two different colours, dent on drivers side rear arch, back bumper gap and thats just from the pics.

the rare grey roof is far better on that colour of car - black looks cheap and horrible....

Guess that's why they sold in a ratio of about 100:1 in favour of black to grey :poke:

All down to personal choice of course.

Defo two-tone grey, both nice colours but would look better one or the other :D

The dent would be impossible to fix without painting due to location.

Alloys £40 each to fix, agree look too wide for the cheap rubber.

Better fish in the sea possibly, unless you've bought it and in that case it's lovely :driving:

thanks for all your replies. I am reading every word feeling it is wise. I have seen others but I'm not sure what to expect. I know I am prob scrapping the bucket, I am not looking for mint and I don't care if the wheels aren't mint but I didn't pick up on the rear light and the paint so I am deffo grateful. Yeah I would ideally like to spend another 1k but when you are saying that this isn't the bargain of the century then I kinda think maybe a bargain at this price might be a car that is sorted for me:)

I don't care if auto or not, I don't mind if its 2.0 right up to 3.0.

I don't get put off by mileages unless theres a specific reason my current tdi has just clocked over 160k and doesn't really feel that bad for it.

Of course, if you're not really bothered on the aesthetics of the car, then it looks a bargain. The negatives could also be used to get the price down a bit.

Wheels and tyres aren't a big problem at all, they just cost money. Same with the dent.

124k mileage isn't just on the engine remember. The whole car has travelled that distance, so bushes/bearings/suspension/seats may need looking at.

This is where I'm after your advice. If this is likely to be the type of car for the money then that's one thing but if this is a dog and I'm being a fool to find one under £4k...

Your looking to buy the cheapest Z4 that I can see on Ebay (aside those for breaking) It's bound to have faults and not be perfect. It's priced how it is for a reason and the above posts cover why from mileage to wheels, etc.

You really have to go look, test it and see if it's what you want being very sure you know what your looking at from mechanical perspective, but my experience is spend a bit more which might only be £500 and get one that you don't have to immediately spend money on.

This seems a better deal for a few quid more at £4195:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2003-53-B...7675073?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item3cdc83fc41

Private seller, but has new tyres, full service history, 6 months tax, 12 MOT, recent service and even a £500 plate in the price.
