However, a previous owner who managed to damage two wheels and even if a complete accident, didn’t care enough to fix? I could not drive around in a car with damaged wheels unless it was a lease car.

Why would somebody buy a new car without a service pack. The last ones I bought, the service packs were really cheap, like £350 for 5 years.

The car in question was a lease (for 2 years). It can be cheaper to pay the fine from the lease company than getting servicing done. Of course that doesn't help the car going forward, as you can't get that/those service back.

Happens a lot from what I've seen, especially with low mileage cars.

My local Benz dealer back in the late 90s up to 2003 were fantastic and always went the extra mile to satisfy. My BMW Tamworth where I have my car serviced are quite good to be honest.

Now BMW Derby where a I purchased my last car were the biggest load of incompetent tossers I have ever encountered. There were numerous cock ups but the biggest one was when I went to pick my three month old car up it was the wrong car. Say no more

When I collected a brand new Vauxhall Corsa VXR way back in 2008, salesman pulled it from around the back of the showroom and I spotted immediately the front bumper was unclipped from the wing. He pushed it back in saying it was fine. It wasn't until I got home realised the underside of the bumper was cracked so into the bodyshop it went.

Fast forward a few months the paint on both mirror housings started crazing and cracking so a pair of mirrors were ordered. 6 weeks later two drivers side mirrors arrived Another 6 weeks wait for the passenger mirror. The dealer has since closed down

That reminds me of a company car I ordered in 1990 (last car I had that I didn't pay for).
I ordered a Sierra Sapphire 2.0 LX in white. I got a call (actually probably a pager) from the office saying my new car had arrived and was waiting outside.
I pulled up and saw a powder blue Sierra hatchback 1.6 L sitting outside. I went in and asked where my car was? "Outside", was the response.

I didn't even get the keys, as I rejected it on the spot. My car came about three days later, thank God. I was 22 years old; it was a big deal to me!

Sorry to hear your tales of frustration, its one of the reasons why I generally prefer to buy from private sellers, OK, this can have risks but to be honest I've bought some piles of funk from so called car dealers so due diligence is the name of the game. Over the decades of car purchases I'd say on average I've had better cars from private sellers, besides many cars on forecourts can be PX cars and Auction cars , give me an enthusiastic owner any day.
That being said I generally never follow my own advice , I can think of a whole host of cars that were bought without test driving other similar cars for comparison because I stupidly and impatiently needed these cars in my life ASAP........TVR CERBERA, CHRYSLER VIPER GTS, EXIGE , PORSCHE TURBO and recently E86 Montego Blue Coupe ..........fortunately the only car I ever purchased that was a complete PUP and NIGHTMARE to own out of the above was .........drum roll....?( wise heads know already)..........was the frigging.......Cerbera.....get cold sweats just thinking about it 25 years later......you couldn't make it up.....I can't recount the whole story now but perhaps I should, but when your speed 6 engine decides to eat itself and spit out metal shards into its sump then returns from TVR BLACKPOOL with a "brand new engine as said Mr Ravenscroft but we're only giving it a 6 month warranty ", to find its your original engine what's just had an engine flush and a few new parts you know you've got a serious problem The kicker was being told " yes Sir all our new replacement engines have mud and alloy corrosion on them from storage in our yard but we've stamped your original engine numbers on the head and block for your convenience "........ now that's what I call customer service.... :thumbsdown:

wow what service, scrubbing the Original engine numbers off and putting the ones on from your blown engine

Ive only ever bought from a few indie dealers and private, never main dealer. The indie dealers I researched in advance, and have to say each time was a good experience. I remember just buying a mk2 Focus, only 4 grand from a dealer on the A13 and wasnt expecting much. Turned up the car was sitting there in the middle of the yard, completely clean, doors open, keys in the ignition, bonnet up all ready for an inspection. No pressure sale, let us look around in our own time, had a few niggles we negotiated a few quid off and bought it. Shame it got written off by a skip lorry that drove into it a few months later really...

Yes and not renewed. Cant understand why this feature would be part of the connected drive package which I thought was the remote stuff such as updating maps and them dialling into the car to fix stuff.
