It may have been a roll over - the right side is more damaged than the left and the mirror is hanging off on that side. If it landed in a field that would explain the copious amounts of mud and grass both covering the car and lurking in open panel gaps, as well as the relative lack of damaged paint. Otherwise, I suppose it could have been falling tree.

Reminds me of an old Porsche Breakers Advert which had a similar pic of a badly damaged 911, it's strap line was ....
