Met up with one of my mates this evening, hit some really nice roads and was thinking the whole time how great the Z4 is.

Mines a daily driver and comfortable enough for the commute but disable DSC and turn on sports mode and it's a completely different beast!

Was following the E36 ///M3 and my si roady had no difficulty keeping up, in fact I felt that I could go harder into the corners than him the z is just so planted

Just got the one photo but I think it's a good one

Nice e36, did you ask for an alloy swap ;)

Have to agree with you James - the 3.0si is a great sports car. So you turn off the DSC  - never tried that not brave enough, what's the difference on the road?

If you partially disable the dsc with a short press it allows the car a degree of wheel spin but will still intervene before you disappear through a hedge backwards :P
I've found when accelerating over manhole covers etc the engine feels stronger without the traction control cutting in

Lovely example of an e36! Give me a shout any time you're going for a blat!

Will do mate, this was a bit of a spontaneous decision when I saw the weather was going to turn crap today wanted to make the most of it

TBH, I'm not surprised that you felt that way with him driving an E36 M3 Convertible, had he been in the Coupe or Saloon version I feel the results would have been somewhat different in the twisties

(all usual disclaimers regarding the biggest difference being the skill of the drivers apply)

Yeah I only do the short press one never been brave enough (or can remember) how to make it turn fully off, but its that slight extra wheel spin it allows that means the computer doesn't try and steal your traction coming out of a corner...

I was actually considering turning it fully of seeing as the e36 has no driver aids but couldn't really remember how to do it and not quite brave enough to look it up

A long press will turn it off completely.

And I wouldn't say the M3 had no driver aids, they do have a slippy diff as standard

Mines off permanently, would hate to have it back actually, it interferes far too much. It's a nice safety blanket though sometimes.

Mine is always 1 short press and very often the long press and hold. The car nannies to much with it on.

I also have a slippy diff in mine and that really helps.

I'm curious, when you say yours is off permanently do you mean you just press the the button everytime you get in or you have coded it out somehow. Plus do you totally turn it off or do you go with the short press version? I've never played with the DSC on mine intrigued to give it a go now!

thanks

Nope neither, I have a dead brake pressure sensor and because I prefer how it drives I've not bothered to fix it
When it first broke I was really nervous but now I know exactly how it will behave and it obviously no longer interferes.
Does mean I'm on my own if I run out of talent like but that's something I can live with.
I don't think I've ever suffered when on spirited drives out with other z4s so I can't be doing too bad

I never though of that! I have had a dead brake pressure sensor too but to be honest I never notice a difference. That said I didn't really drive with it not working. I replaced mine while it was still intermittent and a restart cleared it so I probably did all of a few miles with it switched off in Manchester traffic.

I think I will give it a go, although I will probably wait for it to stop raining here first! Just in case.

On the brake master cylinder there's two sensors, one for the rear wheels and one for the front. One of mine is faulty so it's disabled the traction control.
It's a cheap fix I just don't want to fix it
