The A1 is on your doorstep - Pack your overnight bag and cheque book! :D

It sure is. I would have to fly down but still working with the idea. Will be further forward after today I hope.

well i love mine, and would never go back to an E85 now. i had a 3.0si and i will conceed that it was more of an out and out "sports car" however i much prefer driving the 35is. it is 95% the sports car the E85 was but it does everything else 95% better in my view!

i only use mine as a weekend toy so i am in the catagory of people most likely to regret changing to "less" of a sports car, but i just dont at all

If i was using the car everyday then that would push me even further towards the E89!

Cant comment on what its like compared to an M as i have never driven one.

As a complete aside good god i LOVE the noise the 35is makes its completely intoxicating. i spend all my time going up and down through the box just to hear the pops and bangs from the exhaust!

The M's and the 3.0i's are completely different, there isnt any comparison at all really. Its just so different.

I owned a 3.0l and afterwards 2 M's, couldn't believe the first time I drove the M away from the dealers just what I was missing out on. So, the 35iS would need to be at least the same as an M, I appreciate the build and the new design is more up to date 'obviously' and more of an every day car. As long as it thrills and captures the heart like the E85 M's do?

The 35i/is is nothing like the M. If you want M, go M. The i/is are fast cruisers, not focused sports cars. I would suggest the M is an ideal weekend car for fun, the 35i/is a better every day car.

Oh.... :?

Don't get me wrong, they're a superb bit of kit (35i/is) but they're not M. I'm thankful to be honest, as my spine can no longer take the hammer!

I agree it would be a tedious drive and two days of life gone. NCL airport is not far away from you tho and if the dealer is half decent he'll collect you at the other end.

Just keep your fingers crossed for a nice dry day if you go! :D

That said, I bought my car sight unseen and had it delivered at no cost to me from BMW Park Lane - The car was advertised and described, the salesman decribed the car in detail and when it arrived it was as in the condition outlined.

I would probably do the same again from a reputable dealership.

Oh dear... Getting all worked up over a car. I've made my offer and if they don't accept then Im not purchasing it. Waiting to hear from them tomorrow. I bought from a dealer once down in Southampton (Boxster S) sight unseen and yes was as described. I have no hesitations from this dealer either so would just fly and stay over one night then drive back.

I was going for that option but delivery was a free, no cost option to me - Same price, delivered or collected.
The car was delivered early morning by a sensible 50 ish fella so I was able to get used to the car on my home patch.

Age doesn't make any difference, I should know. I'm on about my fifth mid life crisis

No mid life crisis for me - I've just never grown up - Nor do I want to either. :P

Retired and growing old disgracefully!

Maniac... Interested in your views 3.0 v 35i I have a 3.0 E85 at the moment and are looking to move up to the E89, I guess i assumed the 35i would have been more like an M, however one of you earlier posts in this thread indicated different, did you try a 3.0 before buying the 35i..??

I owned a 3.0 e85... and upgraded to the 35i e89. Totally different, the e89 is way more grown up and comfortable. The e85 did have a giggle like charm about it, you could really throw it about. I don't do that with the e89, far too much money spent. 35i has much more power and its easier to use that power. People often equate more power with M and its not that simple. M's are built from the ground up with one thing in mind, performance over anything else (for the most part anyhow). Suspension, brakes, engine etc are all about performance. Non M's have things like usability, ease of ownership, emissions etc tempering all of this. They really can't be compared. If you drove them both you'd see what I mean. If I was 30 I'd have an M, but at 42 I just can't take the poor ride quality any more, makes me feel sick. It all depends on what you want. A daily car thats quick and comfy/practical/convertible (e89), or something that can hurt your bones but ultimately sets your soul on fire when the moment takes you.
