Third time lucky? Looking for a Z4 again - a few questions

So after my E85 facelift 2.0i M-sport and the lemon E85 2.5i pre-facelift, I'm back on the search for a Z4.

Not sure why I keep coming back to them!

I missed out on a 2007 2.5si for ~3250, which didn't have an MOT but for anyone who saw the work I did on the 2.5i, I'm not shy with DIY.

Now a 3.0si has come up (late-2006), with 130k miles. What's it worth if in good condition? The seller is asking ~4500. There's a low-mileage 57-plate for ~8k with a decent sound system upgrade too. Viewed an Alpina roadster at 11k as well.

Also - do all 3.0si come with Carver sound? Audio is one of the things I've been most disappointed by in my previous ones. If it's not standard I need to budget for some upgrades.

Just noticed there's an auto individual 3.0si in the classifieds - a bit far from me but the price isn't bad! 5k for a late 2006, shame it's an auto...

At that age/mileage combo I would say £4500 is a good price assuming the body/interior is in good condition. I paid exactly that amount but for a 2003 3.0 on 60k just a few months ago. Can't answer the audio question I'm afraid.

My research so far seems to indicate nothing is standard. One 3.0si has the basic 4-speaker system, and another has HiFi. Would be keen to hear any other thoughts / research.

I am clearly biased here  but definitely dont be put off by the auto box, I'd never had an auto before the Z4 and it's absolutely brilliant, I leave it in auto pretty much all the time for the daily commute but if ever on a hoon then can switch to the flappy paddles on the steering wheel and it feels like you are driving a proper race car

TBH even the Carver is pretty disappointing IMO

If you dont mind getting your hands dirty put a newer system in yourself.

On the lemon topic I suppose you get what you pay for. Anything in those price ranges and mileages will probably need a decent amount of work

My 3.0si had the standard business stereo and speakers - when the CD packed in I swapped it for a JVC head unit; even with the original speakers the sound improved significantly

I will have to consider carefully :P with a bit of prodding the guy closer has come down a fair bit if I can view by the end of the week. Will keep you updated.

I'd likely do something similar. Wonder if anyone's wedged a Professional HU from a 1/3-series in (sound improvement was dramatic when I did this in my 1-series, and it kept the OEM look...)

My 1st Coupe had the top of the range 10 speaker system and it was pretty good, but I don't think there are too many cars around with it.

I just have the standard system in my current one and it's good enough for me - I usually prefer listening to the custom exhaust! :)

But as you seem quite handy doing mods I'd just plan to upgrade rather than trying to track down a car with an upgraded Hi-Fi.

Good luck with the search.

As you say, pretty much nothing as standard. You get electric but not heated seats on 3.0i and a few trinkets, but nothing to talk about.

Standard audio on all cars is a 6 speaker system.

Ended up with the rubinschwarz one over the weekend. A full detail and some pictures to come!

Does anyone know how many of the super-limited Individuals were built? Maritime, etc.

A question around the audio - I've seen the subwoofers upgraded in the behind-seat pods but are there any links to amplifier upgrades? JBL MS-8 or Helix type jobs, DSP and amplification.

Nice - Ruby Black looks great when the sun appears!

Don't forget we like photos on here. :)

As for numbers, maybe this will help:- http://perso.numericable.fr/tonyz4c

Just to update - I bought the ruby black and then an Alpina. Now got to sell the ruby black, funny how these things happen :driving: :driving:
