Hi,

I still do not have a third brake light and all seems to have gone quiet. I had a few people discussing replacing old ones etc on the forum, and I have sent a few Private Messages, but to no result.

THEREFORE A RED THIRD BRAKE LIGHT IS STILL NEEDED.

THANKS FOR LOOKING AGAIN.

I would like a 3rd brake light in red. I am sure a few of you have changed to clear l.e.d's so why not let the old one go to a good home for Christmas?

it could do as a temporary replacement as I am considering the clear light upgrade post Christmas. How much would you like for it?

Mine cracked in the corner and the water got in. Some how the plastic clips on the inside perished but the lights still work.

As for an offer I know I can get a new one for about £36.00 from the dealer with discount. Also it depends on whether it has one crack or two. Could you let me know the condition as ideally I would like a new one.

PERSONALLY, if i had a broken one, you would be welcome to it and I wouldnt be charging you anything, not even postage, id consider it a nice thing to do to help a fellow member out and the good karma would be worth more than the money 8)

I have a clear one here which I havent fitted yet, i havent got the right tool to remove old one as im actually rubbish at DIY and never do it.

I was planning on having a crack on Saturday and if i do, you can have my unbroken one for nothing

What a nice thing to do and a great attitude to life. I will look at what tool is required to do the job, and in return I will buy the tool and post it to you so you can do the job on Saturday.

If only all Forums were this friendly.

Tool is a very simple long ratchet piece available from Halfords for a few pounds. I replaced all the lights in about 3 minutes so the coffee my wife made was not even cold yet.

You need the "deep" ratchet socket for it, they sell it in a set. 10 mm if I remember right, but dont hold me to that one.

I will buy the correct tool form Halfords and post it to you along with £10. Once you have completed the job you could then post the light and the tool back to me using the £10 to cover the postage.

I will now place an advert offering my amber side repeaters for free to the first needy member so as to pass on the good karma.

Edited: I Just thought......I better check I still have them before I do this......watch this space.

:o - I was only joking about an offer

I managed to change mine without any special tools - just an old socket set and a bit of luck or I must have super bendy fingers!

Forum works like that, yes. I have fitted a full OEM satnav, replaced brake pads a number of times, fitted ipods, lights etc all for forum members for free :D

Hi guys, sorry to butt in on this one but I've just ordered my clear third brake light as the current one is also cracked and I suspect letting in water. I'm going to attempt refitting it this weekend but was hoping for some advice.

I'm slightly concenred because I asked the guy at bMW about the new springs (http://www.bmwtis.net/tsb/bulletins/bulletin_graphic_temp/B630503g.htm), he said he would get the springs but couldn't see anything about a new washer??? Should I insist on getting the washers too?

Also,,I haven't yet checked the boot to see what I'm going to need to remove, is there interior trim to remove? Any advice from those who have gone through the process would be much appreciated!

Thanks.

Hey you charged me for that head unit, andI had to fit my own SatNav, I want a refund

Think I just got new springs when I got mine.

No interior trim to remove, just fiddly access because of where it is...

Cool - that's good to know cause I always seem to have a piece of interior trim left over when I do things like this!

There was some water in my boot when I first got the car (on the weekend there) - it was in the tray in front of the battery only (closest to the rear bumper) - do you think it was possible that the damaged rear light could have caused this (with your experience of remving it)? It would make sense that it was because I imagine any hole in the light would lead directly to the boot (I have the entire corner piece missing - identicle to the diagram on the link above).?
