Thinking of selling due to roof problem

Bought the z4 new in 2017, one of the last ones made (registered 2016). Ver low mileage, lightly used, stores in the garage and otherwise immaculate. But....roof was repaired twice under warranty. First time they said motor had become flooded - which they changed and replaced some seals. Second time it was a sensor (car was off the road for days whilst they found it). Doesn’t help that the local dealer is crap and incompetent.

What to do? Do I cut my losses and sell? At this point it seems like I need it repairing every summer, on a car that retailed at 40k.

Do I try and argue with BMW and the dealer (it’s warranty expired June last year.

Do I take it to an Indy

One things for sure, I don’t want to pay BMW prices for a repair

Help?
 
So currently it's not broken?
Maybe it never will again?
But if you've lost faith in the car then is there any point in keeping it?

Ah, well it's going to be difficult to sell it like that then.
Have you heard about Ross (Bowser134)? Always been a helpful guy on here and has now set himself up as a BMW Indy, based in Hook, so not too far for you to run.
Maybe have a word with him?
 
Is it on a trickle charger when it’s not being used?

Is it worth taking out BMW warranty then sticking it in to the dealer. Pay monthly then if major issue it’s fixed for cost of excess and you can then decide what to do re warranty and car??
 
Local dealer wants £166.80 per hour to diagnose “hopefully only an hour” they say but chargeable if more. Last time they had to take roof apart to diagnose and it was off the toad for a week! So I could be in for any amount!

Salisbury dealer wants £100 ph but doesn’t have the history on the car.

I'd still contact Bowser first for a chat.
 
I should have added, the local dealer says they will diagnose then ask BMW for a goodwill gesture. Salisbury dealer is sceptical of that given the warranty presumably ran out June 2019, 3 yrs after the car was registered as a demo car before transferring to me in Jan 2017

As already mentioned, contact Bowser to avoid remortgaging issues :thumbsup:

There are plenty of YT videos on E89 Roofs and plenty of guides on here about them when they go wrong.

When mine had an issue I talked the BMW engineer through the most likely cause of the problem.

Best to do your own research on the issue, it could be a simple fix. Sometimes the wires fray in the harness.
If it’s a new motor again, or they replace it because thats what they think it is... it will cost a fortune.
 
It’s booked in with Bowser for next Thursday £42 to diagnose :) cheers everyone. Just put it back in charge (it was at 12.0v and is taking 8amps from the charger

Try it again once charged, that could easily be the issue causing the warning.

Get the battery in a proper charged state as the Smartbear says....it can cause havoc if you don’t keep them properly charged. Hope the roof issue gets sorted👍And put us up some pictures of your Zed, let’s see why you’ve got!!!

Sounds like you are using the wrong type of charger too..that won't help (unless its a mega priced version).. :thumbsdown:
 
Well it supposed to be a smart charger and I’ve selected “AGM” in it but frankly was surprised how cheap it was ;)

I’ll try and put a picture up when I’ve worked out how to as she is mint ;)

It may well be a mint charger, but we'd rather see the car. :poke: :rofl:
 
If the battery has been left flat for any length of time chances are its knackered. I'd replace it before you go too much further.
