thinking of buying a Z4 Roadster

Hello everyone, :)

After much thinking between a 130i and a z4 roadster I have finally decided to take the plunge and buy a z4 roadster.

Looking for one in the not too far distance and with the following :

Black
Sport Seats
Auto trans
60 K <

Have noticed the below example which would tick all the boxes and be in price range ( £8K or less )
Looks nice on paper and seen it on Sunday whilst driving past. Car looks nice and as described.
It has however got a few apparent flaws including a small dent on the left hand door, driver seat bolster damaged and alloys in very bad condition.

Are alloys in this condition something that would hint at further problems with this car ? :!:
What do people think of this specific example ?

ps: the review of this particular garage seem to be very low ....

Welcome

The car does look well specced but there are plenty out there so if you are unsure then walk away and keep looking

I wouldn't worry about the condition of the alloys too much. 108's are pretty bad for flaking / coroding.

Hi

Prices seem to vary quite a lot at the moment, I bought my 53 plate 3.0 auto about a year ago.. with 61k on the clock. Needed a bit of tidying up, body work fine, but internal trim scratched etc.. A year down the line it flew through its MOT all I have had to spend out in the last year is for two new rear tyres, that I knew I needed, no other problems.. got mine for £5150 private sale... bought mine as a weekend car.. but now use it more than the daily drive Kuga we have. now looking for an e89 35i.

Good luck with the search.

good luck with the search AND good luck with the sale :) works both ways!

I would say that's a tad overpriced. I got mine for a bit cheaper (albeit with 10k more miles), but I had the MFSW, the M-Sport seats (those ones in that car are the standard ones). I don't have the NAV screen but hey! :P Also mine was private so....

Woo !! Starting to like this forum even more :-)

Thank you all for fast responses.

@ Jonny essex: Thank you !The car is nice but a little voice is telling me to avoid it like the plague.

@ simvaughan1: Thanks ! millage isnt that much of an issue. Really looking for a nice z4 which I could keep for a while. This would be my first roadster or sporty for the matter.
My current car is a boring golf tdi. A bit like the one 1.8 you had before I guess. Been reading your thread and loads of good advice on it

:driving:

:) happy to help! everyone here is!

I might have to swap to a boring TDI again as my commute is changing to 60 miles a day... Could start getting expensive! :D

Zeds are great cars. The thing that made me jump for mine was the M-sport seats... Just look great and hold you in so well! Hard to find on earlier cars mind.

Going to have a look at the 2 cars below :

Any thoughts ?

Just to add my bit - don't get too hung up on mileage, an engine that has been looked after will do the business for over 150k miles. In fact, a high mileage car is often a car that has experienced mainly motorway driving which is better for the engine than lots of cold start short journeys. More important is an immaculate service history that tells you a car has been looked after properly.

Top one, no heated seats (they're honestly amazing in the cold/wind etc...

Second one looks good :) Heated sports seats and MFSW :) 108's, but slightly corroded on the inside bowl by the looks of it. potentially a haggling point. Also silver so will be easier to keep clean! My black one is a disgrace at the moment :D

I sold my 2005 3.0i (manual) with around 56k on it a year ago, albeit privately for £7200...so price not too bad for a dealer/garage...though the 1st 1 u posted DOESNT HAVE THE M-SPORT seats, which I personally wouldn't be without....but it does have satnav and heated seats, etc.
108s are THE BEST looking oem wheel for the z4/but do have corrosion problems, so need a bit of looking after(wheel polish/protectant, etc) to keep looking good :D

Good luck finding one...ditto, if u can spend a little more, a 2006 3.0si will give u clear lens headlights, etc and a tad more power :driving:

I'm with Craig on the 108 wheels. I wouldn't have bought a Z4 without them. They're the best looking rims on the roadster IMO. They just need care and attention to keep them looking fresh.

The other things you'll want are heated M sport seats, a must have. They really make a difference when it's cold, and hug you right in the seat to stop you sliding about, especially when your driving is "spirited" ;)

You'll want a wind deflector too.

So yeah, shopping list should include all of the above. And Xenons. And DSP sound system.... the list goes on

update

So went to buy the car :-) great little car despite a few problems that have popped up.

The side passenger mirror came off during the drive back on the motorway, scratching the door paint quite a bit too ...

Could hear a nasty little metallic squeak coming from the back right wheel which seem to be the breaks.

Few hours after the pressure light came on and after checking the tyre pressure just found out the the rear right tyre was on 11 psi .... :fuelfire:

Everyday seem to go by that a new problem comes to light. Booked the car for inspection II next week but think that new tyre, brakes and side mirror are now needed...

Congrats on the car, you do realise that posted pics are mandatory for this forum; no pics and you get locked within 3 days...

Thanks :-)

I will post pictures as soon as the various problems are sorted and she got a good clean.

At the moment it sounds like she is dragging a samurai sword through the road! the noise is that bad

Black is the best colour too ;)
