It's worth remembering that the engine in the Elise doesn't have much weight to pull about which helps. The only precaution I took was fully warming it up before driving it.

Exactly! :thumbsup: I ran mine as a daily driver all weathers for 2 and a half years, my mate ran it for 18 months with no probs and I know who owns it now and its still not had its head gasket go. Must be on about 70-80k miles now. One guy I know has done about 170k miles in his S1 Elise and its only had one bout of HGF. I do wonder how many of the cars with problems have been ragged from cold - if you don't have sympathy with the mechanicals they're going to bite you in the wallet sooner or later.

Friendly and helpful bunch and very active forum. Plus there are quite a few of us former Lotus owning BMW drivers on there now so they're pretty bored of the usual derogatory BMW comments. :P

Horses for courses - Elises and Exiges aren't for everyone but if you can live with the impracticality you'll struggle to find a better car for road and track fun for the money. Purer driving experience than the Z. I had an S1 Elise and used it as a daily driver for a couple of years. PITA when it was snowing and iced up or raining heavily but when the sun was shining it was great. If you have a route to and from work that takes in some nice back roads then its a great daily driver. I test drove some S2 Exiges before buying the Alpina and I was very tempted but they were around £30k at the time and that was just too much money in my eyes for that car. Lotus' don't have so many problems these days and quite often you'll be able to fix yourself because they are relatively simple cars (the later yota engine cars more complicated though). Always plenty of help on the forums to point you in the right direction.

since having the M coupe i no longer miss my exige....i did however still miss the thril of it when i had my Si roadster before this...
 
Hey Andy! :D Most of them are very anti-bmw truth be told but there's quite a few of us on there now so always plenty of backup! :P I find it amusing how blinkered a lot of them are especially when they defend the most awful of Lotuses so its good to wind them up. Any chance of getting this smiley over there:-

I sometimes miss the chuckability of my old Elise but thats about it, the rest of the time the Alpina has it well and truly whipped.

yeh i find it funny to be honest as i know we/they all think our cars are the fastest in the world and the elise will have EVERY car in the corners but one day the masses will realise its just a plastic pig! and there might just be a better built car out there somewhere..... except mr demon hes just an argumentitive *&^^%%£

i enjoyed my time with my elise and exige but i accepted its time to move on and have a few luxuries like carpet, a heater that works, heated seats for those cold winter days ;) etc..

i reckon we could put in a request to stu to get that smiley added :lol:
