Thinking about moving back to Yorkshire...

So I've lived away from Yorkshire, where I grew up, for most of my adult life. As both our parents are getting older were thinking of moving back there so we're both in easy reach of our parents, plus to take a step back from the incredibly busy and stressful lives we lead now.

One side of parents is Doncaster, the other Stockton. So we're thinking York, Harrogate or smaller outlying villages.

Neither of us are nightclub age any more but we do like to eat and drink out and so we need to factor this in. Plus we have two dogs so we'd like to have somewhere with accessible dog needs like parks or indeed country side nearby.

Any thoughts on this In terms of village options, nice places to live etc? We still need to work (finance and IT) and don't mind small (less than an hour) commutes.
 
Where is your commute to ?

Plenty of places in Yorkshire...plenty of countryside for the dogs...

I think you will have an abundance of places.... But depends what kind of property you want,location and your budget...

New builds on estates are gonna get more bang for buck.... Stone properties in small villages will be bigger money and less for you cash..

The move will require new jobs so as long as we are within an hours commute to some town or city that will have financial or IT jobs then that's that. Don't want a house in a new build estate but don't mind a new build hamlet. Three bed, detached, with a reasonable garden. Budget up to half a million.

The more important part is it needs to be a nice town or village to live in. Pretty, quiet, nice people, a pub!

+1 for Pickering/Malton/Helmsley & the Howardian Hills in general. Some stunning little villages and great driving roads. :driving:

Thirsk is a bit further west and right on the A1 for commute - also a nice little market town and again, not too far from the NYM for a little bit of weekend hoonery :)

It will be a good move , the pace and quality of life I imagine will be much better, and the selection of nice driving roads excellent , just don't persuade too many people to move up here as the roads might get busy and the house prices climb , good luck.
 
Have a look at Pocklington or the villages around, Millington etcetera, having just done 18 miles walking around there today I can say that the Yorkshire Dales is probably one of the most beautiful places in the UK

This is in the middle of nowhere near a tiny village called Great Givendale

I think you'll find you were born in Scarcroft Road. :)

Maniac, If you want to be close to York, then the outskirts like Bishopthorpe, or Stockton on Forest, Strensall, etc give easy access to amenities.
