Thinking about a coupe, will I miss the roadster?

Test Driving a Coupe on Saturday as I an considering looking for an upgrade in power from 192 bhp 2.5 to 260bhp 3.0, but the question I keep asking myself is even if I can agree a price will I miss not having a roadster? The Coupe does look better but will I yearn for top down days especially as the weather is so nice at the moment?

Has anyone on here gone from roadster to coupe?
 
I never ever put the top down on my SLK if that counts :?

When I first started smoking, I could never ever comprehend a life without cigarettes, but then after a few years I couldn't really be bothered anymore, and after nine years I stopped.

You can still enjoy the sun if you own a coupe, by spending more time in the local beer gardens.
 
I guess what I really should have asked is will the extra chassis stiffness and keener driver outweigh not having thye folding roof? I know it's all personal prefferences but feedback from any coupe owners that previously owned a roadster would be usefull
 
I bought the coupe and love it. Danged fast and I don't have to wear sunscreen to drive in the summer. Oh, and I can track it if I want-can't track roadsters here. Haven't owned a roadster but drove one all day long in the Ultimate Drive. Fun? Yes, but by the end of the day I was sunburned and my hair looked roughly like bozo the clown. Scary.

Thanks for your input, I don't need to worry about ruffling my hair as i don't have any LOL.

Any previous roadster owners that now own a coupe?
 
I'm toying with the same question when I upgrade to an ///M as I think the coupe can look stunning with the right colour and wheels etc, but love getting the roof down for the summer sun, think it will be another six or so before I get rid of mine though so I can keep wrestling with my decision.
 
As you are folically challenged I believe it is the law that you must buy a convertible ;) (judging by 90% of the convertible drivers I see hehe). :rofl:

On a more serious note I think driving a roadster makes any drive more fun weather permitting :)
 
It's a rare sight anywhere. If Wiki is anywhere near accurate, there were only 17K made (3.0s and Ms).
 
I went from a 2.5 roadster to an M coupe 2.5 yrs ago.

Not once, and I honestly mean this, did I miss the roadster. And it wasn't just down to performance. I just didn't miss it at all. Had the roadster 2yrs, after 2yrs in a TT roadster and as I say, getting the coupe was not a regret at all.

You have to ask yourself how much you use the roadster as a true top down car. If its not much, then you'll not miss it.

Agreed. I drove home with roof down after work when it was bit cloudy and only 16C outside. Also, it depends on what road you normally use. My daily journey is mainly twisty countryside B-roads (45 miles round trip). It is so enjoyable to have the roof down when driving at around 60mph. :)

If your journey is mainly motorways and bumper-to-bumper traffic, then it will be different story. So I think the new Z4 really fits both situations.
 
I just bought a Coupe, used to have a 3 series convertable, which was great. I used to get the top down all the time but I just like the Z4 Coupe, rare, looks great and is a real sports car which I have never had b4! :thumbsup:
 
Does it count that I have a hardtop for the Winter and love it, but just can't wait to get it in storage and the roof down for the 8 months of open top opportunities?

That, to me, is preferred to the new Zs folding tin top!
 
Thanks for all the feedback guys (& girls). Actually I'm someone who gets the top down at almost any opportunity, cold but sunny Spring and Autumn days included which is why I'm in a real dilema as I really like the look of the coupe and there seems to be more of them on the market than roadsters in 3.0 guise (at least when looking at 2006 and newer cars).

i used to have a 3ltr roadster, i now have a M coupe.
for me the looks and styling sold me on the coupe. I loved chucking the roof down - there was no better feeling, but the coupe is a different thing - both are great, i imagine i'll get another roadster (maybe not a z4, or a new z4 when they bring out an m :P) at some point, but for now a coupe is fantastic.
