Thinking about a change...

LOL at some of the responses. Hmm still undecided TBH. I just like them, not sure why :idunno:

a11y, what happened to yours?
The better question would be what DIDN'T happen to my Clio

Basic short version...

Owned it from new, was perfect for 2 full years. Then alternator literally went up in smoke, scared the sh*t out of me seeing smoke from under the bonnet. That began a fiasco of dealer visits to replace it, but each time they returned the car to me something else was wrong. Electrics were totally FUBAR'd on mine and I'm certain it could be traced back to the dodgy alternator. What ended it for me was Renault UK's refusal to fix/replace my knackered Xenon headlight under warranty despite the car having 6 months warranty remaining. After 14 dealer visits in 10 months I traded it in at a Honda garage for a Civic Type R - couldn't have sold that Clio privately due to the electrical issues but luckily it behaved itself at the Honda garage.

It's put my off Renaults for life which is a complete shame, as the Clio V6 is still on my list of Cars To Own Before I Die - just don't know I could bring myself to own another Renault

And BTW, some of you lot are coming across as complete badge snobs - hate to say it but that's the impression I get. Who cares about the badge, it's the driving experience that matters. Hence why - despite my experience above - I keep on thinking another Clio would be a great car to own, but then I stop myself because of my expeirence...

I like the idea of getting a clio, a lot.

It could provide thrills on a road with that connected feeling and real thrash'abilty. And then also be a great track car that only cost you 3 grand so it doesnt matter if you bin it. Spend a grand on suspension, pads and tyres and its all the fun you could want.

The only thing i dont like is that i wouldnt feel very special in it, that is slightly related to snobbery i would think (sorry :D )

Why not go for an american muscle car? that'll bring you to your senses and still be more fun than a hot hatch until you rekindle your love for the Z4...

Thanks for all the comments, I had shortlisted these cars -

E89 Z4
New SLK next year
370Z coupe
335i coupe
Clio 200 (Ally you put me off it LOL!)
Cooper S
Ibiza Bocanegra

Got something sorted now. Pics week after next.

Yeah I still have the beast, 3 year lease which runs to June next year. Done 17k in it now which is a lot in a 1.2 car I can tell you LOL.

If it's the 370Z.. I truely hope it doesn't have the same prop shaft issues my 350z had... :?

OK so in 2003 and 2004 I used to lurk on the forum formerly known as Z4um, longingly looking at the Z4, but couldn't afford one at the time. So I went through a couple of MX-5s instead.

Then in Jan 2006 I bought a 9 month old 3.0 with 107s, heated M seats, xenons and hifi upgrade, a great car which I loved. It had a few warranty issues (which were sorted), it rattled like hell, the ride was rock hard, but it had bags of character and I loved it. Especially those M seats.

A couple of months into ownership, the facelift and ///M were released. And then a few months later there were bargains galore on ex-BMW UK management cars. So I started hankering after an ///M.

I kept the 3.0 for 17 months, and for most of the early part of 2007 I was trying to get a deal on a Z4MR, but in the end and after speaking to numerous dealers and trying to get the spec and deal I wanted, I finally gave up, sold the 3.0 and bought an SLK350 instead. Which suited me at the time, and it was a great car.

And then after three years of owning the SLK I was looking for a change again. I really love the new Z4 and especially the 35i and 35is. But the fuel pump issues put me off them, even though it probably isn't a big issue. And I didn't want to add a load of cash to the SLK either.

So I made a speculative enquiry on another car I'd seen online, got talking to them over the course of the next 3 weeks or so, and then suddenly the deal became too good to miss.

So - 2007 Z4M roadster in Interlagos with black leather and carbon leather trim, 13k miles. The spec is a bit lumpy, no bluetooth or nav, but it does have heated seats (essential) and hifi upgrade which I wanted as I had it before. And I also only wanted the carbon leather interior, which limited the choices a bit.

So glad to be back in a Z4.

Delighted for you Mike! Actually made me smile :D

Sweet looking car, sounds like a decent spec too - one of those foolishly not worried about nav myself

Does this mean you'll now be along to some meets? Stretch its legs a little! :driving:

Welcome back.

Excellent choice of colour, at least I know mine won't depreciate now
