Thinking about a change...

Well after 3 years I'm thinking about putting the SLK up for sale, but there is nothing I really fancy that meets my budget. Would love a lightly used 35i or 35is but I feel they are overpriced currently. I'm also waiting to see what the new SLK looks like too.

So I've found a cheap 2 year lease deal on a Renaultsport Clio 200 - thinking about doing this for a while and then see what happens with the SLK and also to see if a Z4 coupe is in the pipeline at all, which would be my preferred option.

Am I mad for even considering it? :idunno:

PS Taking offers on my SLK, PM me for info

*** News flash ***

Uk, 25th July 2010

For some unknown reason, the market for both Mercedes SLK350 as well as Renault Clio 200 has completely collapsed and all models rendered virtually unsaleable.

>>

You knew this was coming Mike, right?

Hey don't even go there, I chuffin' well think I've ended up getting completely financially spanked again :-o :headbang:

Luckily I don't take it too seriously otherwise I'd have jumped off a cliff by now

RS Clio 200 is a cracking car. I've only been a passenger in a Clio R27 (forerunner) and was seriously impressed with the feel of the car - much more grown up than my previous Clio 172. Quite horrific on fuel apparently and the 200 isn't exactly pretty although I like it. Worth paying the extra for the yellow IMO, suits the car perfectly IMO.

Clio's (except the V6) plummet in value though, but being a lease deal that won't be as important (will it?).

Mike,

Did you see this ? Looks like it's going to have the SL/SLS front grille

a11y, was hoping you'd see this. Are they reliable?

No need to worry about residuals, £1k down, £230 a month, hand it back after two years. The Cup is £200 a month.

original guvnor, cheers! Have been tracking the pics for a while now, ETA of June 2011. Hmmm.

The deal sounds good. It should be exciting to drive. Not sure about Renault's reliability these days. Are there alternatives out there (used Cayman/Boxster/911)?

I've also been keeping an eye on the spy shots of the new SLK - I think it could be a bit of a beast. If launch is within a year, I would sit tight until then!

Ah, reliability..........
It depends on your luck really! I was quite involved with the Cliosport forum hence heard lots of horror stories, plus I had my own horror story with my own 2004-model Clio from new. However, I know more people who've had near-enough perfect reliability, so as Isaid it's really just your luck! I refer to my old car as a "Friday afternoon" car... The latest-shape Clios are supposed to be a step up in both reliability and build quality and their only real negative points are the fuel consumption and the residuals. If you read evo you'll know how highly they rate them...

Not sure what the spec differences are between the Cup and the full-laden version because - ironically - the reliability of the Renault website is somewhat lacking and isn't working for me. But whatever you do ensure you spec the Cup chassis (standard on the Cup, optional on the full-fat one). Recaros are a very very nice thing to have too

No don't do it, keep the SLK for another year, after 3 months of the Renault you will be wishing the you hadn't leased the French piece of S^%* and then it is to late, yes they make good farmers, but Engineers? :fuelfire:

I'm a bit surprised too. Unless you need a cheaper car, why would you get rid of the SLK? It'll be a better car than the Clio!

I'm actually looking at getting a Clio 197 now to replace my Z4, but only because I have to!

LOL at some of the responses. Hmm still undecided TBH. I just like them, not sure why :idunno:

a11y, what happened to yours?

ksher, too big I think. One of my neighbours swapped an SLK for an SL, then just bought another one. Don't really like them though, unless it's an AMG. The Clio would just be a stop-gap until I get something else.

Maybe I'll sell the SLK and just drive my Micra for a year :?
