Think! Campaign and Free Bumper Sticker

Had a wee run out to Croy then up the coast to Troon yesterday and saw a shed load of bikes enjoying the good weather, which has prompted me to look at the Think! campaign once again.

You can also get a free bumper sticker or ten to help spread the word.

I read somewhere that you should open your drivers door with your left hand which will promote you to turn and see in your mirror and blind spot for motor/cyclists much easier. A simple technique which might save an embarrassing situation. I have still yet to remember to do this of course, grrrrr.

Do motorcycles have a similar bumper sticker to remind them not to put themselves at danger by riding dangerously?

I have one on the back of my Jeep as a warning to car drivers (and bikers):

'Your skid stops here'

Seems effective when they get too close

Don't think there is much you can do to stop middle aged - new found youth bikers driving like lunatics around other traffic and putting themselves into danger. It is rare and certainly an exception when you see a bike being driven sensibly.

I won't even go in the mopeds abroad madness who are most certainly on a suicide mission.

No, but the Think! campaign has a lot of stuff specifically aimed at motorcyclists, does anyone remember this advert:

I just associate the Think! campaign with "telling car drivers to watch out for bikes", which I fully admit is a good thing. Most of the time I think people do, but as usual it is the few that let the side down.

Same with bikes, most bikers are probably safe, but then the few that aren't are the ones that need to be careful.

So whilst I agree there should be plenty of "reminders" to cars about motorcycles, I also think there needs to be a similar scheme for motorcyclists who put themselves in dangerous situations.

I do find the constant "Think Bike" signs in my area a little patronising when I believe some bikes are the dangerous ones.

Its like everything though, there will be safe car drivers and motorcyclists just as there will be dangerous car drivers and motorcyclists.

I think bikers should me more alert...simply because they might come off worse in an accident.

I arent anti-bike, and at the end of the day, these campaigns are to save lives, so if they work, then great. That advert shows a responsible rider making a safe journey by reading the road...a skill that seems to be on the decline.

* I am talking as a car driver and not a biker, so in reality, I don't know what its like for bikers.

So often the case in many walks of life.

I was that idiot who let the side down, but it was many years ago, maybe I am seeking redemption?! Well, hoping that fewer will walk in my footsteps, so to speak.

I have become more cautious and try and pick the right time and place, if there is one, to drive like a cock.
