Things to see in Madrid ideas please

Well me and the missis are going to Madrid this weekend for my birthday , looking for some ideas on what to see or do , cheers

My parents took my nephew for his 18th & the Bernabeu was the highlight for them , fortunate enough to get to see a night match 8)
 
Didn't like Madrid at all. Best thing was Plaza Mayor, quite a bit going on there.
Hope you have a better time than I did. I definitely wouldn't go back but you might love it.
 
I've been to Madrid a long time ago when an ex boyfriend had to travel there often on business. It has some great restaurants and bars. Spanish food and wine is amazing. I hope you enjoy it. Get onto the lonelyplanet and roughguides websites to find out more about what to do, I've always found them very good for travel.

Loved Madrid, visited a number of times. Depends what you are interested in, there is Serrano Street and the adjacent streets which are one of the city’s most chic shopping areas and worth a visit, will keep the misses happy :thumbsup: . If you go to the La Latina area which is just south of the city centre this is where there are several markets including the Rastro flea market. Another area to visit is the The Plaza de Santa Ana which has many terrazas where you can enjoy cañas and tapas if thats your thing. There is also Retiro Park which is a large park located in the center of the city. There is also the Royal Palace plus lots more.

I would suggest you take a tourist bus and you can jump on and off as you like. There are two routes, route one tours historic Madrd, and route two tours modern Madrid including Real Madrid's football stadium.
 
Well, the Metro is the way to get around Madrid.

Three things I would recommend are
1. Retiro Park, lots of entertainment, people watching people, fountains & lots of history
2. There's a famous Sunday market, full of antiques, leather goods & all sorts ... it's huge & a fab place to wander around
3. The Royal palace - there's a swanky crescent to eat nearby, not cheap but if the weather's good the surrounding streets are very nice to wander around

Otherwise it's Spain, tapas city

That's true, IF you know where you want to go. For first time visitors on short weekend trips then the tourist buses will show them all the main sites, and you can hop off if something takes your fancy. :)
 
Hi my birthday visit to Madrid was very nice , we visited the palace , cathedral , the large park and a couple of museums and of coarse lots of shops :roll: the only thing I found disappointing apart from the crap weather was the food maybe we eat in the wrong places though .would I visit again probably not , give me Paris any day

safely back - Lisbon's much better, Lucca near Pisa in Italy probably my best recommendation - check it out, am sure you won't be disappointed.
