Things to do in Paris

Things to do in Paris. Eat croissants, drink coffee and enjoy some textbook people watching.
Other than that just wander around and try to stay off of the beaten track.

oh ........... and try to avoid parking on the street.

Parisians seem to think its normal and expected to sideswipe park cars.
Watch a garbage truck destroy about 20 cars one evening because his truck wouldn't fit down the road between the parked cars - when asked, he said ...... I have to get down here ....... so thats ok then.

I'm heading off to Paris in a couple of weeks with the other half.
Now if you'd been going as a single man I could have given you the names of some very nice places, Germany also, some very nice live shows

I'd echo that Sacre Coeur is great in the evening. The best free spot in Paris, take some food, sit on the steps. A guy with a bucket of ice will probably walk up and sell you a bottle of cold beer...

There are is often someone doing a side show or similar.

Pompidou Centre used to be pretty good too.

If I remember correctly (and I cannot remember the details fully - old age!) take the metro to La Defense. Not much there, but good for a few photos, but there is a big 'straight' on the metro line and you do reach 'warp speed' (excellent :D ).

Also, do the Lourve, but not really for the Mona lisa, as mentioned earlier it's a let down. The rest of the museum is pretty good though.

Another good 'free time' - walk from Arc de triumph, Champs Elyees, etc.

Buy some bread and wine, just watch the world pass by.

Hit the nail on the head with that

Well, just back from Paris last night. Not been on here much recently due to work and relayed courses (finally now have more than 3 days in the same place!). Thanks for all the great suggestions - apart from Ryanair flights and coming back to a flat tyre/dodgy alarm/roof not going down, we both had a wonderful time.

Day 1, we arrived early afternoon and spent most of the day wandering around - first near Sacre Couer which is wonderful then Champs D'Elysee at night. Day 2 started with the Louvre (as you said, Monarch Lisa was a let down, as was the café) followed by Notre Dame, the crypts and a walk along the Seine. Then had dinner in 58 in the Eiffel Tower which was fantastic and topped the day off by a walk up to the Trocadero to watch the Tower light up at midnight,

Day 3 was another trip to the tower to go up to the top (only made it to 2nd floor though as the top was closed) followed by a cruise along the Seine, a trip to the Pompidou centre and dinner and drinks in nearby bistros.

All in all, it was a fantastic wee trip away. Well needed as we haven't seen much of each other recently with work getting in the way. Thanks for all your suggestions!
