things bmw could have done better

I don't like the clonk as the roof closes.

+1 - a little unrefined, and always sounds like it's giving up right at the end, which worries me even though I know it shouldn't...

Everything in the car squeeks and rattles on bumpy roads. I would think that on a car build by german (in the USA) standards everything is bolted tight as h*ll. But it's not.

The crashy ride and creaky cabin are the only things i'd have wanted improved from the factory. Thats a much shorter list than most cars!

Hmmm, tested on long, mostly straight, smooth bits of asphalt in the US maybe ?

5. You can't blame BMW for some twat parking to close. This is an issue for any 3 door car also, but as our windows are framless you can at least lower the windows to gain easier entry.

Z4 doors are pretty damn short. I guess it's the fact you have to drop in that makes it difficult.

You want to try a 3dr modern hatch like a Golf GTi or Focus RS... doors are very long :D

Regarding the 2.0. Roadster:

Not fitting Run Flats
Non notchy gear box
Front parking sensors standard
Non leaking fog lights
Less harsh suspension

This is why I'm getting an MX5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My dads just bought an mx5

It came standard with a keep fit roof, apparently you put it up and down yourself. True your motor won't break. But thats like having keep fit windows, electric is better...

I think a lot of the issue is people letting crud get down the drain holes, somehow...

All said and done, I think some perspective is needed. From what I can tell, the Z4 is a very very solid car. You need to be grateful as it could be a lot worse!

+1

thats one long list of problems  . should compare it against other cars to make our zeds look better.

Thing is, the Z4 has a list of common faults, but they are all a piece of cake to fix DIY and fairly cheaply.

I really do not worry about anything on my Z4 (touches loads of wood), since everything so far has been a joy to fix. I'm guessing even big jobs are fairly nice. I think when it becomes clutch change time I'll be doing that DIY too! (with help of course :) )

Split rim alloys that actually stay laquered.

oh and not quite Z4 related but.... those totally wank adverts for the 1 and 6 series. Theres a new one out for the 3-series. I can't watch them without cringing.
