Thermostat replacement, 2003 Z4 3.0

Good evening all;
It seems like i have a bad thermostat on my 2003, Z4 3.0. The engine warmup time is very long and it never reaches operating temp. I have bought a new thermostat but i have not found a DIY guide for the Z4 for that production run. The thermostat is on the front of the engine is very close to the front frame. It looks like i might be able to get it off but it looks very close. I figured i asked you guys for help before i am stuck with a half removed thermostat.
has anyone preformed this operation on their car before? Any tips / guides?

Thank you !

It will be same as E46 probably find lots of guides if you google e46 thermostat diy. The waterpumps on a m54 engine aint really known for leaking or failing. So its up to you if you want to change it, not really neccessary though ive changed them and my old ones looked fine. Who's to say the new one wont fail before the original one anyway my advice do it when it fails. Having said that there only £30 and its in same location as your thermostat so there a job most people do together.

Easiest way to do your thermomstat is to just undo both sides of the hose connected and remove the thermostat put new one in, reconnect then just top your coolant up as you wouldnt have lost much if you do it this way. Top up and bleed coolant after by running the car till warm with heater on full temp then release the bleed nipple on the exapnsion tank. It can be done in 1hr there's only about 6 bolts to unscrew on the thermostat. There no need to do a full coolant drainage from radiator at all. This is the original oem you will take off

here is the waterpump most upgrade to Meyle brand very good

if your changing the waterpump too my advice would be to unscrew the air box first aswell then use the 2 bolts for the airbox to jack out the waterpump. Theres 4 bolts on it remove them theneither side of the pump is to pillot holes. Screw the airbox bolts in think there 8 or 10mm size. this will push the watepump off the engine block easier. You will need to do a full coolant drain though if removing it
