Thermostat, map cooling: activation. Should i worry?

So my car is in for its yearly check-up in two days. I noticed this error pop up on my diagnostics a few times since a month or two ago. Normally i would clear it and it would pop up again, but not so frequently. Is it something i should get the indy to check up and replace? Is it a labour intensive replacement?

So far the car runs great. did a run on the autobahn a couple of days ago. I never noticed the coolant temp needle rise above what it should be. Just want to double check before giving instructions to the indy

These two codes do seem to crop up together, but don’t bring on any dashboard lights or cause any problems apparently. I have them. I’ve got a new oil level sensor and thermostat ready to fit, but have been holding off for the next oil change. I recall seeing other threads on this subject if you care to search.

I did try searching but probably didnt search hard enough. didnt see anything that explained the map activation in detail. Ignore the Thermal Oil-level sensor. that has been there for more than a year. the sensor will be replaced during my oil change coming up. the cooling activation on started popping up recently so not sure if they are indeed related.

Is it something that is labour intensive to replace? looking at realOEM, it seems the radiator and everything else needs to come out. so debating whether its worth paying the labour costs for it or if i should just skip it for next time.
additional note: i will be doing a collant refresh as well during this check-up. not sure if thats the right time to do this

You shouldn’t have to take the radiator out, just the engine undertray, radiator cover and fan cowl.

Just saw a video on YouTube regarding the thermostat. Doesn't seem too difficult. Coolant had to be drained so I shall ask the garage to do this before adding new coolant. Looking at the part numbers for the thermostat, I'm a bit confused which thermostat this fault relates to. The water pump or the expansion tank? The video was about the thermostat mounted to the engine. Only the the radiator cover and fan was removed as you mentioned.

Hiya [ref]NaweedMustafa[/ref], how did this work out for you? I should have answered your question by asking if you had a manual or auto, because I think only the auto has a thermostat in the expansion tank system (for cooling the auto transmission).

How did you sort it in the end?

Hey Zedebee, Issue has been resolved at the garage. I only indicated to them, the part number for the thermostat above to replace since they were doing a coolant refresh. Was not aware of the difference with auto and manual. In my case it is a 3.0 manual

In that case you only have the one thermostat. Has the cooling activation code gone away now?

Yes indeed. Never popped up since it was replaced
After 270,000km's on the clock with the original thermostat and pushing the car on the autobahn, i expected something to wear out
