Thermo Hardtop

I am haggling price with a seller of a hardtop for my E85. He argues his is a "special" thermo version.

Does anybody know if this could be true - are there different version of the hardtop? (my car is prepared for hardtop).

Pros and Cons of these?
 
Has it also been aerodynamically polished for maximum drag resistance?

I have some magic beans for sale if you're interested? 🤣🤣🤣
 
He has probably insulated it with adhesive panels of somesort but IMO the hardtop doesnt need anything extra to make it 'thermo' and adding panels or thermal tape etc will only be adding weight.
 
As above, ask him what makes it 'special'. If it is different in some way, maybe it's not a proper BMW supplied roof and maybe it's not actually as good as a normal roof. How much of a premium is he asking for it being 'thermo'?
 
Other than the OEM BMW hardtop the only other type I've heard of is the rather odd looking Moris one from France. Not thermal as far as I know :thumbsup:

This is a new one on me. It will be interesting to here the seller’s explanation. :driving:
 
Never heard of a thermo hard top. He may be missinformed. Ask him what the thermo bit is.
 
....under options in the D.Morris hardtop it lists " High sound and Thermal Insulation ".....so maybe this is what he is selling .......and not an BMW Hardtop ???
 
Thank you to all of you. I really appreciate the help you're giving me, being new to both Z4 and this forum.

I got the price I wanted - 700€ - and confirmation that is it BMW original. Will pick it up in a couple of weeks :D

There’s also the one off that makes a Roady into a Coupe
