... good reflexes?

Cruising down the back roads of the forest in the shed last night on the way home from work, roads mainly dry but for the odd remaining patches of standing water, when the car started fishtailing down the road. Off the throttle, OFF the brakes, gently steering into slides till the tyres got a grip again and things back to normal. Black ice? Did I imagine it? :|

Obviously not. Passing the same spot this morning I saw that at least 2 other drivers hadn't been so lucky as their cars had gone through the fence and were still in the field beyond!

Amazing how much damage a wooden fence pole can do to a Ka by the way.

Glad you were ok, we have a road near us with a bend that always freezes/slippy, cars go around the bend and go onto the other side of the road into oncoming traffic, saw the aftermath twice last week on 2 separate days :(

Went for a walk the other day and watching cars driving past us through our estate, road looks nice and black in most places so most of them driving like it's not icy. Went to cross the road at a roundabout, stepped onto the road and within 2 to 3 steps was doing some silly Monty Python dance to stay on my feet while Mrs Eds grabbed my arm to hold me upright. Could barely stand up and kind of slid across the rest of the road! Complete ice rink but to look at even as a pedestrian it looked just like normal tarmac. Amazed none of the passing cars were in the middle of the roundabout.

yep, careful driving for the rest of the year, it is absolutely freezing. got a nice 65 mile trek each way to wakefield tomorrow which should be nice.... luckily its m1 pretty much all the way up there :)

A close shave, glad that you made it, its the natural tendency to brake when you start to slide that does you in

We used to live in Kingswood in Surrey and one morning we had a knock on the door, it was the police and some bloke had lost control of his 911 gone though the fence and into the front garden and buried itself in the trees, not a pretty sight

oh how we laughed :D
