Dreadful, pointless, and cruel.

My nephew was born after the first and before the second tower came down.

It is the cycle of life.

:tumbleweed:

Edit - I understand that others may not feel this quite so directly and sympathise.

Sorry but I can't agree it's the cycle of life. For many reasons I can't agree.

Thanks for the acknowledgement!

I was in my car on my way to work when the radio dj started to report of the first plane and then described the second plane as it was hitting.

I got to the job site and all of were standing around silent looking at each other wondering what are we supposed to do. I have seen the clips on tv once and refuse to ever watch them again.

I remember thinking it was a movie on TV at the time.....

The shock when I realised it was real

x2 - I was standing in a BT call centre in Bristol and someone had it streaming on BBC on the net.

Actually, I think I can see Fin's point. I don't agree with the circle of life part, but new life coming as so many departed is quite a moment if you had that experience

Either way, don't make this thread an argument, out of respect for those who lost their lives. Ta!

The 'cycle of life' is we are born and we die. One life enters the world as one leaves.
What isn't the cycle of life is when premeditated mass murder is carried out on hundreds of people.

What it is is the nature of human kind. We kill in the name of religion and have done for centuries.

Tell the kids whose parents were in the twin towers it's the cycle of life or the husbands and wives, sons and daughters who lost loved ones.

Sorry Stuart, fair comment. I just feel very strongly about this.

There are words , scum , cowards , let mossad ,sas , sbs ,delta force and anyone else with a lust for justice loose on these cowards who hide behind a book that theyve misinterpreted or read in a certain way to justify their sickening acts , as for the cycle of life ? lets turn the wheel real quick and end theirs ! f...ing scum sorry if its a bit strong but i was in usa on that horrible day working in arizona i watched 4 guys break down knowing the worst

It was an insane act. Powered by the hatred and dogma of man who had a dysfunctional relationship with his father. It was a tragedy and an evil crime. Our anger and desire to hit back led to hundreds of thousands more deaths in Iraq.

I worry that by memorialising this date we hold onto a poisonous act. Not that I see any real alternatives. There is certainly a place for commemorating private grief and for expressing national sorrow. The phrasing of the rituals, ground zero, the war on terror, they have sown fear uncertainty and doubt. The atrocity has to be put into a wider context if the global political discourse between Christianity, Islam and competing nation states are to find a working accommodation.

I don't think we should put it behind us in any way but I do feel we should try to learn lessons and consider how we might change our policies to prevent a recurrence. Increased airport security is a sticking plaster. I am just a little uncertain at the wisdom of nations if they take ownership without addressing the causes.

Anyway. I do understand that for the families it is the date of a nightmare. I feel for them.

whoops- too busy typing to check the thread.

I am sorry if I have offended anyone. It was not my intention.
