Theft risk

A friend had his car nicked off his driveway this week (Scanner through the window) non BMW and it got me wondering if any of the BMW range is vulnerable to this bearing in mind most cars are opened by similar technology.

So I have been looking for a list of cars at risk and what you can do to protect your car, keys.

Happy to see no Z4`s currently make the list nor does my X3.

However I am not confident that the list is fully inclusive so what I have done is looked at options to protect the keys by buying Faraday key pouches to keep the keys in.

I live in a low risk area but frequently visit, work in high risk areas so that seems the most sensible thing to do.

Am I being paranoid :!:

Either way... watch your cars peeps :?

Or leave them in the Microwave - works just as well

Good tip but not always possible if your away from home 🏠

The best thing to do is to not worry to much about it. It will drive you crazy otherwise.

Speaking from experience here, as my missus had her Fiesta ST stolen using the same method last year

That's why we pay for insurance. They pay out, you move on and try to forget about it. If someone wants something that bad, they will take it, regardless of deterrents.

Someone local to my parents had to watch whilst a gang used an angle grinder to remove a steering wheel lock and threatened them with violence if they came out of the house :o

I've got comfort access on the M140i and just keep both sets of keys in a faraday pouch, they work so job done, it doesn't put me off in the least having comfort access on the car and always spec it if available on the model. I would be more worried someone breaking into the house looking for the keys than someone outside trying to use a scanner. End of the day you can only do so much, i.e. try not to park in dodgy areas, use a garage if you can at home, decent window and door locks and a few security cameras dotted inside and outside the house, they're so cheap to buy these days and easy to set up. I have a Ring Cam outside and a couple of cheap Neos Smartcams which I have pointing through windows which work well https://shop.neos.co.uk/?gclid=CjwKCAjw-4_mBRBuEiwA5xnFICvteZVIAsQxixMnIYmnZVM7RQXSFyxFPzTJdLd5GHBu1mGYD2dLeBoC6WoQAvD_BwE all are linked to Alexa which tells me if motion is picked up outside. Also ensure you have good security lighting around the house. I'm wary of car jacking especially in the BMW, not so much in the Hyundai :) so keep a dye spray can handy which stains the skin and can't washed off, its legal to own and use.

Tim.

I'd get the bat and gun ready at hand then, there's a gang of scrotes had 5 goes at my house over the last couple of months . im guessing they want the keys to our 340 touring as it doesn't seem to make any difference if I'm in or out , I've twice chased the fuckers with my baseball bat after catching them on cctv , must be a Wirral thing
On a more serious note , if anyone does catch someone don't give them a kicking outside , that's assault apparently. But you are allowed to do it if you catch them inside your house , defence so the cops said to me .

I doubt it could be proved either way, even if plod was bothered. I guess you’ve got phone video from their scumbag mates perhaps so the moral is ask them inside for a brew then knock f**k out the thieving little bastards...

Let's be real here. No one would do anything

I know I wouldn't. I'd rather live and be carless for a bit, than have my family bury me

These gangs aren't opportunist thieves. They come tooled up and won't hesitate to use them :?

I have done something, I went out to 5 youths kicking my MR2., Ok i got bottled and chained but I’d do it again, unless they had knives though.

I was always of the same opinion these days , but old habits kick in quickly when your watching some scote trying to take the double glazing unit out of your front window to get in your house :o
I'm no hero or hard man but when you can see the little prick in your garden by himself I'll take my chance . Don't get me wrong , if it was 4 big blokes at the door I'd chuck the keys out the window and give them 10 mins getaway time
