The Z4s first detail :)

They grow up so fast, don't they? :'(

As you can see from the first 2 pictures, the previous owner must have taken it through a drive through car wash that used brushes. The pictures really don't do the severity of the holograms justice. They covered the hood, doors, and every panel. So this past weekend, I pulled it into the backyard for a full detail.

I didn't really get a whole lot of after shots since I was ready for a shower, but the paint looked like the following after I was done.

The process took me about 6 hours and contained the following:

1. Wash with carsoap
2. Claybar in the garage
3. Rewash with carsoap
4. Menzerna Super Intensive Polish with a portercable 7424 on setting 6 at 1 inch per second
5. Rewash with carsoap
6. Tropicare swirl cutter at 1 inch per second
7. Tropicare polish/sealant
8. Interior detail while sealant bonds to the paint
9. Tropicare wax
10. Shower :p

This process removed all scratches and holograms from the paint and enhanced the richness of the blue. With the sealant, the paint will be able to resist swirls and spiderweb scratches easier, but this process will have to be done in another 8-12 months. Believe me when I say that the time and effort to do this was well worth it. I have received more compliments on the car these past few days than I had the few weeks before I detailed it.

I am really glad I got this car. So much better than the 94 accord with peeling paint and no a/c, lol. Let me know what you think. 8)

Nice work, but the orange peel in this picture is quite noticeable though ...

What's wrong with the orange peel texture? I could wetsand it I suppose but it would be a lot of work for an unnoticeable gain. :/
 
Looks very nice.
The orange peel is factory finish on BMW full stop isnt it?
They put too much hardner in the clear coat which causes this.
You could wet sand it but with a porat cable you will be there for ever and a day rectifying the finish.
There is a fine art in wet sanding so unless you have experience in doing it I would leave it be and ejoy the ride :thumbsup:

The space grey paintwork on my new car is still like that blue zed.

Nowt much all you can do with it other than either put up with it or go crazy trying yourself/hiring a detailer for a good fee.
 
Yeah, it doesn't bother me too much to spend the money to get it sanded. If I don't notice it now, I probably won't after its sanded, right? Lol
 
Yep, ALL BMWs that I've seen suffer from orange peel effect in the paint to some extent. Wet sanding scares me and isn't something I'd attempt on my own car!

Great colour for the Z4 :)
