The Z4 stay at home challenge

So, this thing isn't going away and now might be a good time to get people into a bit of detailing (we ain't going to be doing f*ck all else). Let's start with folk adding a before and after shot of their Z's during this period. Whether you've got a fully corrected car and it's maintenance wash, or the other end of the spectrum and you've only ever taken it to the eastern euro boys scratch wash....now is a good time to show the Z some love.

Kudos and props to the people with the best before and after shot and bonus points for artistic photography. I'll upload mine later on today.

Well, tbh, I see no issue in being out in the car, on your own.
They are saying you can walk outside as long as you're not in close contact with others.
So I shall be finding quiet back roads and breezing around getting as much non-polluted air down my neck as I can.
got be just as isolated in a car at speed as you are on your drive where anyone can walk up to you?

Hope this qualifies for the challenge & please no laughing at the back  :P
Ive had a set of 224s at home for a while now , they were on the Si coupe i bought & they came with a virtually new set of Nexen in Si Se sizes ( incidentally these tyres perform way better than their pricepoint would suggest )
Wheels themselves had no kerbing but heavily blistered & generally looked shabby , intention was the usual acid strip & powdercoat refurb but yesterday i was home isolating & thought  could be months before i get chance to get these sorted  i have a can of hi-silver & a can of gloss black  why not have a dabble at a refresh myself :P anyhow a few hours later i was pretty pleased with myself & i'l be more than happy putting them back on the coupe to use :driving: ( whenever that might be )
Not sure what you would call the colour :D but its a glittery silvery black

You guys are lucky can't go anywhere here unless it's to the supermarket pharmacy hospital or walk the dog! and even then only one person in the car no passengers allowed. Perfect time to be doing some work on the Z, except only I don't have a garage! :x

Sadly I didn't get a before shot of mine, but here it is after my 3.5-day detail completed this week. I'll be doing plenty of self-isolating inside my Zed, starting this Sunday with a run around Snowdonia! :driving:

When not sat in front of one of the many Pc's that are slowly filling the house. I am planning to self isolate with the roof down on my way to the moors, well as much as the weather will allow.. I really can't think of many places safer than the centre of Dartmoor. Good challenge though and worthy of an entry when I find the time. :D

I like those, prefer them to plain black as the silver makes them pop a bit more

They look great Andy....definitely qualifies as a proper stay at home DIY job!

Whilst just washing my car, my neighbour asked me if I could do her Ford Kuga in exchange for 12 eggs....so that's my Sunday now sorted!

This will probably go the opposite way as I’m off work, it’s sunny and some great roads near me so this is it today back on the 224s I’ll post a pic with it after a few drives though it never really gets dirty!

Turning into a silver grey northern z pic thread!

Took the opportunity to wash, clay bar, polish and wax the cars. Dropped the coilovers on the z to accommodate the new 18’s. Only issue is I’ve now got the wife’s to do  11F00ECC-5C92-4E6D-96DD-219F9C558C84.jpeg07A4B92A-C8E6-4DBF-8D5F-6C1C7F796132.jpeg

Wow...both of those look amazing! What’s the quality of the close up paint on the Z looking like?

Thanks! For a 17 year old car it’s really good imo. There is a patch of lacquer peel on the front bumper which needs sorting, about the size of a 50p.

Ive been changing/upgrading bits for a few years and short of a full respray It’s pretty much as I want it

A few enjoyable hours spent detailing today :)

I've spent the last 3 days machine polishing our 12 yr old mk6 Fiesta ST. Its got the lovely performance metallic blue paint. I gave it a major decontamination (wash, tardis, clay etc) first of all and then set about with my new toy...

Granted it's not a zed, however it has been used to experiment and refine my technique.

Hope to work on the Zed from this weekend, time to get rid of the swirls...

Lovely stuff....such a beautiful colour. I really wanted to buy one of these but the insurance premium was bonkers, as they all keep getting stolen. :headbang:

Keep in mind the paint on the fords is very soft compared to the BMW, so you'll need extra time to get similar results.
